Cheap to run and wide beam angle works great
I have had these for a month now and overall I think they perform really well.I specifically bought these as I've just moved into a new house with halogen spot lights everywhere! It was costing the earth to keep all the lights going so decided to go LED.Having looked around at a few I bought two different LED lights and I preferred these ones for three reasons:1. The beam angle really helped as the light fittings weren't positioned too great in the house and the corners of the rooms were noticeably, these LEDs have a nice and wide 120 degree beam angle which has brightened up the corners of the rooms.2. The brightness is just right, our ceilings are slightly lower than usual at about 2.3m so while we wanted decent amount of brightness, we didn't want to get annoyed by it.3. Cheap to run as you would expect. 5.5w compared to the halogens, saving lot's on electricity and will payback in a couple of months in my high use rooms (e.g. living room)The only one thing I would say...In order to archive the wide beam they put a lense over the front of the LED which makes it protrude out slightly more than the original halogens and other narrow beam angle LEDs. In some of the fittings the metal clip to keep the light up would not fit and I had to resolve this by manipulating the fitting by bending by hand ever so slightly the housing to accommodate the LED build slightly higher for the clip to retain. However it was so simple and only took a minute.Other point to note:I should have realised this at the time that this would be an issue! I probably would have purchased the dimmable version as we have a very young baby laying in a her basket facing upwards, and you shouldn't really be looking up starting at these lights constantly, so being able to dim the lights if you have babies looking up at the ceiling is important!

Good bulbs, worth a go!
At the time of writing these LED bulbs are £5.99. I bought 2 of them to try out in my bathroom which has a light fitting capable of holding x3 GU10 halogen bulbs. I've only ever had x2 50W bulbs in it at once though which has always provided sufficent light. My first impression after replacing the 2 halogens with these fancy LED ones was very good, the light was evenly spread and lit the whole room nicely and they were the same colour as before. However when my wife went into the bathroom (I never told her I'd made the switch) she noticed straight away that the room was slightly dimmer than usual and started giving me a bit of grief. She was right as always though and they arn't quite as bright, so I've mixed in one of the standard halogens to make it x2 LED and x1 Halogen. Everything is all good now and neither of us can notice the difference. I'm going to buy a 3rd one so I can try out having all 3 as LED and I'll update this review with my thoughts. Google tells me that a 50W halogen bulb emits 800-950 lumens of light, so that explains why these LED ones aren't going to be as bright at only 460 lumens. The energy saving however is fantastic and that's a big plus point! Going by my limited experience I would say that LED bulbs currently aren't quite bright enough on their own for general purpose lighting. If you're using lots of them under your kitchen cupboards then you'll have no problems at all, but if you're intending on using 2,3,4 of them to light your whole room then you may find that you need to mix a standard bulb in.UPDATE 12/06/12: Unfortunately I had to return these 2 bulbs. I have no idea what happened but one minute they were working and the next they weren't. I tested them in multiple fittings and if I cupped my hands around them I could make out a faint glimmer from a few of the LEDs but otherwise they were dead, something killed them or maybe it was a quality issue I don't know. Disapointing as I was about to order a load more of them.

Better than halogen - although pricey
I can recommend this bulb as an alternative to halogen bulbs. I have a kitchen which was running 15 GU10 halogen bulbs with a stated lifetime of 1000 to 2000 hours - I found had to replace them after 1 to 2 years - with 15 of them this was becoming a regular occurrance. The packaging states that the LED bulbs use 89% less power than a 50W halogen - and although I have not measured this I have found that one advantage is that, although quite hot, they run a lot cooler than the halogen bulbs whilst giving equivalent light output, so there is certainly less ennergy being wasted. Also, with 120 degrees beam angle, they tend to provide an even lighting and not to throw "pools of light", which was the case with the halogens. The colour is fine - comparable with the halogens I was using. The LEDs are unobstrusive when the bulb is fitted in the ceiling. As to length of life, LED light bulbs have not been around long enough for me to have any measured data on them. However, with a stated lifetime of 50,000 hours, I am expecting to have to change them a lot less! I hope this is the case, because the one downside is the increased cost - I paid £5.79.Update 1:=========I now have 4 of these fitted, the longest has been running for 4 months without problems and is still as bright as it was when originally installed.Update 2:=========First one (of 4) has failed after 6 months of usage (circa 1000 hours vs stated lifetime of 50000). Seller is replacing under warranty. Dropped the rating to 4 stars.
