how do you apply this on an existing 1/2 inch copper pipe?

I just slit it with a box cutter and wrapped it around the existing pipes and wires (AC) and bought insulated tape to tape it shut. I also just now bought a large plastic accordion expandable tube to protect it all from the 109 degree summers and the 30 degree winters.
