Review "Former yarn shop owner and knitwear designer Hammett (Ready, Set, Knit Cables) takes a basics-and-beyond approach in Creative Publishing’s latest addition to their '101' series of how-to books. Each chapter is devoted to a different skill, starting with the basics and moving on to more advanced techniques, such as colorwork and lace knitting. The DVD that accompanies the book includes tutorials that give knitters who are visual learners the opportunity to see the various techniques in action. VERDICT: Beginning knitters interested in branching out beyond knit and purl will appreciate Hammett’s straightforward approach and simple projects." - Library Journal Read more From the Author It's my goal as an author to write high quality knitting books that are easy to understand. Through my years as a yarn shop owner I've discovered both how knitters learn but also their common frustrations. I've tried to anticipate questions and present information with clarity so that readers will make more progress as a knitter while working independently. Don't get me wrong. Your local yarn shop (LYS) and knitting friends are great resources but I want my readers to be able to access the information they need whenever they want. One of the things that sets Knitting 101 apart from other books of its kind is the number of photographs - there are almost 400 of them! I wanted to make sure the images were correct so I was actually the hand model for the book. I worked side-by-side with the stylist and the photographer for 11 days to take the photos. This is my first book to have accompanying video content (available online through the publisher). I realized as I was working on the script that the video is a valuable tool for enhancing the experience of my readers. As a yarn shop owner, I've learned that knitters often need to be shown a technique in more than one way. After reading the directions in a book, my customers would often come into the shop to ask one of us to show them the same technique in person. I was also the hand model and the spokesperson in the video. By reading the book and then looking at the video, it's almost like having a knitting teacher sitting beside you.The book has seven main sections. There are 20 projects that are used to reinforce the information learned in the skill portion of each section. The projects are great fun and intended to help knitters learn and progress without frustration. Here's a list of the projects by section:Basic Knitting: Garter Stitch Scarf, Loosely Knit Scarf, Scarf Knit with Two YarnsTexture: Baby Blanket, Seed Stitch Table Runner, Cabled Smart Phone CaseShaping: Felted Fir Tree (wall hanging), Leaf Edged ShawlKnitting in the Round: Felted Bag with Needle Felted Embellishment, Hat, Golf Club CoversColor: Striped Rug, Slip Stitch Shawl, Color Blend Scarf, Color Block HatLace: Lace Scarf with Beaded Edge, Lace Curtain PanelsPutting It Together: Directional Block Scarf, Baby Bath Robe, Baby Hat Read more See all Editorial Reviews
