Memories come flooding back
Back in the 1970's you'd quite often find me in all weathers (mainly rain, fog and snow) at Penistone railway station on the Woodhead line watching the trains go thundering by. I rarely collected loco numbers and knew nothing about them but I knew I loved these electric locomotives (and anything else) that used this line. It was a special place for young me. I honestly thought this great line that crossed the magnificent Pennine moors would be here forever. As a result I sadly took no photographs or visited other locations on the line (there just didn't seem to be any reason for it) and then suddenly it was gone. In an act of insane Government vandalism this amazing electric rail link across the north of England England was scrapped. Trucks and heavy goods vehicles now clutter up the roads instead. Oh it's so sad. And really this is why I bought this DVD of memories. It's a link to the past and I am so grateful to the souls who recorded this line for posterity. These home made films, lovingly narrated are quite something for me. I have a few DVDs of this line now and every time I see Penistone I hope that one day I'll spot young me standing there, blissfully enjoying the last days of a great line.
