You can just get lost in Over the Garden Wall, luxuriate in every aspect of it - the animators' attention to detail, the wonderful music, the voice talent... all of which add up to an utterly unique work of art, with an atmosphere I can hardly describe (American Gothic? Americana? Old Autumnal? Colonial quirk? Folksy horror? Wonky nostalgia? Western Ghibli? Probably all of those.) Wirt is walking with his brother Greg (and Greg's frog) when he realises they're lost. In an attempt to get back home, they befriend Beatrice, a talking bluebird with a secret. As they journey together, they encounter a gruff woodsman, pumpkin people, a school for animals, a tavern filled with oddballs, a steamboat for frogs, all the while being haunted by The Beast that lurks in the Unknown. But where exactly is the Unknown? And how will Greg and Wirt get home? I bought a multiregional player so I could own this, because for some reason (I blame the Government) the British People aren't allowed nice things like one of the best things ever, ever made in cartoon format.
