Blue Murder - Complete Series 1-5 [DVD]

Really enjoyed this series. Excellent acting, direction, scripts. Very engaging and entertaining. Wish it had gone on longer.

Such a good show

Decent British crime drama set in and around Manchester, with clever ' Who-dunnits' and a likeable cast, headed up by the versatile Caroline Quentin. A total of five series, with four to five episodes per series. Series 1-4 have an episode run time of 1 hour and 8 minutes each. In series five, each episode drops to 45 minutes. Very watchable, and my only criticism is that some episodes end very abruptly, after the big 'killer' reveal. The series five episodes, can seem a little rushed with their reduced run time. Overall, very good. Four stars.

If the theme of Touch of Frost or Wycliffe are to your pleasure then Blue Murder is a very well acted and interesting (and fun, sometimes) watch.Perhaps a little too much of the family/human interaction - it could do with more of the policing side of things - but those scenes fit in quite nicely. They provide an outlet, a release, of the dramatic tensions of the 'hunt'.Oh.. and YES, Artur is RIGHT - you don't deal with bullies with time-out rooms and reading the school code... you belt them one.(Watch the series, you'll know what I talking about).If the theme does not work for you, this set will not change your mind. These DVD's are for people who already like this theme.For those of you who do like the drama-cop stories, this is a worthwhile purchase. Very entertaining.** check your discs - my first set had cracked discs (around the centre hole). Amazon replaced without any problems. **

It was a good series to watch and reached all our expectations. The only problem was that was the complete series as they didn't make any more. Well recommended.

Caroline Quentin stars as Detective Janine Lewis brings her humanity to the series. Most police / detective dramas involving women as the "Leader" are based on the struggle of a woman having to prove herself to the guys. In this series Detective Janine Lewis leadership is established which, gives the audience the opportunity to focus on the murder case instead of power struggles.I would highly recommend this series to add to your White Chapel, The Killing (Danish with subtitles), Foyle's War and New Tricks collections. Delivered promptly to an overseas address, which is great. I enjoyed this series alot. Strange that id never seen it on tv or heard of it before.The stories, sets and acting is all superbly done.The only thing I didn't like was seeing the lead character's children abandoned in favour of such a career. There are far more family friendly jobs in terms of working hours that she could have pursued when she decided to have children. Its awful seeing the children suffer because the mother is always at work.

Sadly no longer with us on TV, so I consider this the best way of watching the whole series when it suits me. As it was on main stream TV most people will be familiar with at least some of it so no need to go into detail of all the plots in all the episodes. Suffice to say that the acting by the cast was of a high standard and they delivered an enjoyable product. The picture quality of the DVDs is good rather than excellent but still very acceptable especially at the price.
