Works Great - Caught 3 Gophers On My First Try (Out of 8 Traps Set)
I set 8 traps and caught 3 gophers on my first try! I followed the instructions for these types of traps that I found on youtube to dig out the plug under a pocket gopher mound and place the trap inside the tunnel. I had best results on a couple where I put a flat object over the hole and then covered that with dirt. Some that I used dirt to cover the hole after setting the trap were triggered and buried with more dirt with a gopher pushing dirt onto the trap instead of walking into it. Of the 3 I trapped, I had to dispatch one, the trap worked beautifully on the other two. I used about 18 inches of bailing wire to attach my traps to a stake outside of the hole to prevent an animal from getting caught and dragging my trap down the tunnel. The only negative is that these traps take more hand strength and coordination to set than the Victor Easy Sets, but these are 1/3 of the cost...so I opted to have more traps to set. That said, my 9 and 12 year old kids can set these with just a little practice, so it's not that difficult.

Problems setting some traps.
I've been using the Macabee version of these traps regularly for years and they've always worked flawlessly. However, of these eight traps I ordered last month, two remain very difficult to set and one just impossible. The issue seems to be that the open jaws can't be depressed down far enough for the set pin at the top to reach over and catch, no matter how hard or in how many ways I've tried. Yes, 5 of the 8 work fairly well, but I'd say that 62.5% reliability stinks.

Seem sturdy
The media could not be loaded. Update 3/3: They certainly work, but not for an extra smart gopher who digs holes to go around these traps, or throws dirt on them to trigger them. Nothing wrong with the item, but better suited to a creature that’s not quite as smart as what I’m battling. Ended up having to bury and use gopher wire around my entire fence perimeter instead which seemed to do the trick. Maybe these will work for someone else, but they didn’t work for me. 😕————I have yet to use these since they just arrived today, but they seem pretty sturdy and made entirely of steel. They are not difficult to set, but it requires a bit of finger strength, and the instructions needed a little bit of figuring out, so I made a short video on how to properly set these traps for anybody who’s having issues with them. I will be setting all of my traps out today for a very annoying war of attrition with a gopher that I’ve been losing for the last two weeks trying to live catch him since I’d rather not kill him, but he’s a little too smart for his own good so it’s time to resort to violence. We’ll see how it goes… if it works as advertised, then I’ll be coming back to update my review.

Works as advertised.
I used these traps on day one, caught a gofer the next day. They work great if you use the traps correctly. Its all in the wy you direct the proper hole direction. "Go to you tube if in doubt". With that said, the gofer I caught was still alive when I checked the trap. No biggie, I finished him off with a BB-rifle.

I got the gopher!
I want to revise my feedback. I finally got the gopher today! My suggestion, watch a few YouTube videos on how to set these traps, be patient and persistent. Go a little deeper in the ground, find the tunnel junction if you can and set two traps, tie garden wire so you won't lose your trap. Wear gloves. I would share a picture, but out of respect for the creature, I will refrain. But I am so relieved. Yes, these work!

Don’t buy these traps
I have been battling gophers for the past year. Previously I was using the victor brand traps with good success. But, I came across these traps that were considerably cheaper, so I gave them a shot. They are hard to set, very sensitive, and are too big for most gopher tunnels. I have a very hard time getting them placed inside the tunnel without them going off. 10/10 would NOT RECOMMEND

Cheap metal
The trigger bends very easily and once one bends the trap is trash.
