One of the best books on the subject
What a great book (one of the best) on the process, pulls and pushes of writing in academia or to quote her, in the “guild of academe.” The entire delivery is practical and useful, the tone kind and considerate, and the overall knowledge provided by the book highly helpful to anyone in the field of academia, from graduate students to new and established faculty and scholars. I wish I had the blessed opportunity to read this book when I was a graduate student. The book is a wonderful gift to both aspiring and established writers.

The best writing productivity book for academics on the market today!
Write No Matter What: Advice for Academics is one of the best books I've read on productivity in the academic self-help genre. Jensen covers a good deal of previous terrain early in the volume, but there is enough new material to make this worth reading stem to stern. Her strategies for maintaining momentum, working through writing blocks, various stall patterns, critical feedback, etc. are incredibly nuanced. If you are looking for graduation gifts for the newly minted academics in your life, you cannot go wrong with this book. It's written largely with a faculty audience in mind, but graduate students facing the crush of the dissertation process will absolutely benefit from this text. Jensen's candor and forthrightness are empowering. Academics of all ranks and institutions will find this book to be a balm against the challenges and pitfalls of writing and working in the academy today.

Great book!
Excellent book on academic writing if you struggle actually getting it done! Great techniques to get you to work on your writing projects. Insightful ways to deal with a lot of the mental road blocks we encounter in academic writing. And helpful suggestions for forming writing groups that work.Jensen seems to have a deep understanding of what impedes getting writing projects done! I highly recommend this book if you continuously struggle with writing journal articles or with finishing your dissertation!

Excellent Book for Academic (Creative, Technical, etc. etc. etc) writers!
I originally picked up this book because I am preparing to write a few articles that I hope will be published via academic journals, but the further I got into the book, the more I realized that this book offers some great strategies and tips to actually developing a positive relationship with writing in general. Concise, amusing at times, and always informative, I would recommend this book to almost any author out there looking for a good book to help them get motivated.

This is my favorite book thus far for a beginning writer
If you are new to writing or new to academia, I suggest reading this book to learn how to deal with the pushes and pulls of writing and keeping up. I love the detail and systems in this book. The author grabs from other authors and saves you time so that you do not have to read the other books and brings the important parts of writing into this document.

Fantastic book
As a new PhD student, this book has been tremendously helpful. It really put into perspective why writing is important, but also the power of knowing how to write, when to write and why sharing your writing with others is important.

Helpful even for non-academics
Obviously focused on academia, but I gleaned a lot of insight, tips, and ideas to write more in general.Interesting, unintentional insight provided by the text, is regardless of context, profession, or situation we all struggle with things like imposter syndrome, necessity and support of community and other dependencies that were unnecessarily avoid.

This is by far the best guide to the motivational side of academic writing that I've ever encountered. It combines practical insights with deep wisdom about the obstructive myths we tell ourselves about our writing (and about ourselves as writers), about how to counter those myths, and about generative ways to get more writing done. It's a book that I think every academic should read--you will recognize many of your foibles, treated with kindness and insight--and that faculty advisers should assign to their graduate students as early in graduate school as possible.

Must read for Academician/Researcher
Book is wonderful to read. It takes you not only about writing methods but touches the overall working culture in academia, the mental conditions and thought processes researchers go through.

actually useful advice!
this is a book about how to write as an academic, not how to edit...and very useful because of that distinction. Editing is an important skill, but in the high-pressure world of academic writing, writing is the primary skill. Much of modern academic culture actively punishes writing, on the 'you're doing it all wrong' advice column. This book encourages academic writers to disconnect the inner critic and get down to the business of typing.
