Affordable remedy for anyone at risk of tripping and falling!
The Ossur AFO Leaf Spring is great! It's light, fits in any shoe and acts like a shoe horn when you slide your foot into the shoe. At first wearing I did notice a slight skin irritation from the calf pad that protects your skin from the plastic upright, but with subsequent fittings the irritation vanished and the AFO worked as advertised, keeping me from tripping over my own feet! The price seems a little steep for the materials used, but when you compare it to other AFO's that charge over $200 for essentially the same protection it's a real economical solution to a very real tripping and falling danger!

Works beautifully and is extremely durable and light weight.
I purchased this for my brother. He has drop foot from a broken leg. He had a heavy brace with metal bars professionally made for him for years. He is in the construction field so a lot of wear and tear. He had to change the springs in his original brace about every 6 months. He complained constantly about soars, heaviness, and constant repair. I told him amazon has several different kind of braces and he was reluctant to try one. He figured it wouldnโt hold up. Well I talked him into picking one out, I told him if nothing else he could wear it while not at work. Let me tell you, he has had it for months and wears it 24-7. Work, play and everyday. Itโs super lightweight, does not give him soars, durable, and works awesome. He threw his custom made brace in the closet and said he was done with that. He runs bulldozers backhoes, etc. is always jumping out of machines, and into ditches, he loves this thing.

Le sigh
This was the priciest one ive purchased and the lowest quality. The upper strap has no strap padding and the calf padding is so thin and cheap. Cant even return it so im just going to remake the strap that their R&D dept couldnt handle making.

Too much flexibility.
I have moderate drop foot due to brain surgery and this afo is way to flexible for me. It also creates a callous on my foot. I am not saying it is a good or a bad product, just not right for me.

like at industry conventions
I've used the Ossur brand AFO for years for moderate drop foot on one foot and severe on the other. On the severe foot, the brace itself isn't quite enough, so I went to a facility that manufactures custom-fitted carbon fiber braces. They work well but are really TOO stiff; I reserve them for times when I'll be walking long distances or for a long time, like at industry conventions. But they are hard to use on uneven surfaces (I live in the Ozarks ... there's nothing flat here!!) And they cost $12K. So for everyday use with the foot with the more severe drop foot, I've rigged a homemade small nylon rope that I connect to holes I drilled in the top of the AFO and connect to the forward laces in my shoe. I've made several modifications to this BRILLIANT ;-) "installation" to reduce wear, but in general it, in conjunction with the Ossur AFO brace, works like a dream.

it is great. I even took it on a 45 mile ...
I have been wearing this for drop foot for the past 14 months or so. It does the job but isn't quite as smooth as my expensive AFO. For the price, it is great. I even took it on a 45 mile backpacking trip and I was sure it would fall apart - but didn't. I still have it and now use this one to mow the lawn, etc. I actually can't believe that the velcro strap is still in place. The foam against your calf definitely wears out pretty quickly but so far, it hasn't been uncomfortable to me. With heavy activity like hiking or while aerating multiple lawns this last weekend, I can feel some rubbing near my achilles but not so bad that I had to stop. Great purchase and for the price, can't be beat.

It helps
If you have drop foot, this brace is hard to beat for the money. It does help. I don't have a severe case, but I do drag my toes often. I'm writing this review after only one wear. As I said it does help. Not only do I have drop foot, but I also have trouble lifting my leg to start the stepping motion. With this AFO I'm able to concentrate more on the leg motion, and not so much on my foot. My leg more or less swings out to the side to compensate for my toes. On top of working to keep my toes pointed straight ahead. As much walking as I do at work, it did save some energy. I'm feeling that it will save boots too. I generally only get 6 months out of any boot that I buy due to my toe dragging a lot. The sole rubs down to the insole before I get to wear a boot out. Tried resoling, but they don't stand up to the chemicals as good as the manufacturers glue. I can't recall any time today that it has dragged the floor. It also has reduced the slapping noise that my foot makes when I take a step. It's pretty loud. I couldn't sneak up on anybody. Overall, this AFO has helped. It will probably fit into any shoe that I own. I really didn't notice it too much other than the obvious stiffness at the ankle, but then again that's a good thing. That's probably what has reduced the slapping noise by giving me more roll to my step instead of my heel hitting the floor, and my foot just falling. The only downside that I have found so far is the fact that since I don't have good use of my left hand, I tend to buy work boots without laces. Wellingtons are easy and quick to put on and take off. It's somewhat of a chore with the leaf spring, as you won't get any flex at the ankle to just slide out of it. Anything with laces should be fine though.

Changed my life
Great product. Actually changed my life for the better with improved mobility. I have had foot drop for many years and have had to be extra careful walking around, fearing that I could trip. I did many times, with one fall resulting in an arm fracture. I also used a cane on long walks. When I realized there was something that might help, I ordered it. I can now walk safely, without fear of falling. I'm using the cane much less. This is great!
