I got this for sons 19th to put his bday cash in 👍😁 it was heavy and made of great materials and I think it's now my go to gift idea for all the grads and teenage birthdays. It is also easy for them to reset the combination for themselves Sooooo it's such a cool gift!!!! Really!!!

When I received this cryptex, I was excited to reset the code and give it as a gift. Although the device is made of heavy metal, and seems sturdy, it did not function as advertised. Two rings, one silver, one gold, with thin lanyards, were included and were supposed to have the inscription from Tolkien's "one ring" on them, but the engraving was so faint, it could not be seen except under very bright, direct light.It took me several attempts to open it, the mechanism was sloppy and it was difficult to line up the letters, I had to manipulate it for several minutes to finally get the cylinder to open; and even at that, it did not slide open easily, I had to really pull on it to get it to move out of the housing. Trying to insert the cylinder again was equally as difficult. I hoped that once I changed the code, the mechanism would work more smoothly (expecting that the frustration was due to factory assembly). No instructions were included with the device to change the code. I watched a review video from another customer (who did not show the entire code changing process) and worked out how to do it after that.Two hours later, and I was still unable to make the mechanism work properly. I attempted to change the code several times, lining up the letters precisely before reattaching the screws, to zero positive results. At last, after no luck in resetting the code, or being able to close the mechanism (let alone get it open again after closing it halfway), I gave up and returned the device.I DO NOT recommend buying this device. You will waste time in assembly and money on a product that doesn't function.
