Great for touch-ups after clipping nails
I have a couple of rechargeable nail files that I use on our dogs, and they do a great job as long as I don't leave it too long between filings. When I do, I tend to clip the nails using standard pet nail clippers. Unfortunately, that almost always leave a sharp edge. This is where this manual nail file shines. The nail file is great for smoothing off sharp claws. While I'm sure you could use it to file down the claws to length, I feel that would just take too long for our three dogs. They get bored and antsy pretty quickly. For smoothing, though, this nail file is perfect. It's easy to hold and maneuver, and there's no "motor" noise to distract or upset the dogs. Also, this file does not heat up, so I don't have to worry about it getting hot.The only nails I sometimes have an issue with are the dew claws. If I've let them get too long, this file simply won't fit in the space between the claw and the leg. Once I get them down to the right length, though, I am able to use it even for these claws. So, good file that can be less stressful for your pet and that encourages decent shared time together. I'm not sure it could be the only tool for keeping nails trimmed, but it certainly complements regular clippers and even rechargeable files.

It's ok if you have no better options
I knew what I would be getting when I ordered this file. It's a wooden handle with interchangeable sandpaper discs that attach via velcro. It's simple in design, and it could be helpful if you have a dog who is very anxious and afraid having their nails trimmed (as one of mine is thanks to a careless groomer).Having used various versions of sandpaper-based files in the past, I expected that it would work but be very slow to remove material from the nail. If your dog's nails are already short, then this isn't as much of a problem, but if they are longer and need a significant trim, then you can expect to this file to take a good long time.I also found the mechanics of a flat sanding surface to be a little awkward. It is easy and comfortable enough to hold, but I got the best results using the sander in one direction because it wasn't easy to just run back and forth across the end of his nail. My dog starts to get uncomfortable as soon as you touch his feet, so despite the reduced noise vs. an electric file, he did not want to sit long enough for me to make any progress even on one nail using this file. It may have worked better if the surface was slightly curved and could be moved bi-directionally in a rocking sort of motion across the nail. That might help with the amount of time it takes to use.The file came with one sanding disc already attached, and I also tried to pull it up to see how difficult it would be to change. The backing piece on the handle is just attached by sticker, not glue, and it immediately came off the wooden base. It now won't re-stick. I can easily and permanently glue it back in place, but the fact that it wasn't glued in place to start is a sign of shoddy design.I don't dislike the idea of this file, but it just falls short in terms of efficacy and product quality.

Works But Time Consuming
This nail file for dogs does work but it takes up quite a bit of your time to do it. One of my dogs still has a back dewclaw and I wasn’t able to use this on that nail since it’s so loose/floppy and not sturdy like the rest of her nails are. It’s a large sturdy durable product with an easy to hold handle and it also looks nice. Made of thick wood with sandpaper on the bottom of it. Came with three extra pieces of sandpaper for it but I didn’t see where I can buy more when I run out of what I have. This file is quiet when using it especially when compared to the electric files. I like to use this if there is a hangnail I notice on my pups nails and if I have the time to use this. Honestly though this is too time consuming for me to use on all four of my dogs every time I do their nails. One dog I do have to use it on because she won’t let me use anything else on her nails. Small enough to take with you in your purse or bag if you go on vacation. Good value for the price.

Great for in-between clippings
This is a great little product. It takes a little getting used to, for both me and my dog. And it's not going to completely replace clipping nails. It would take way too long. UNLESS, you use this often, then it might replace having to clip. It takes a while to "sand" off the hard nails, but if you focus on the sharp edges, it works great. My dog's nails were long overdue for clipping, and using this alone wasn't doing the trick. Takes too long. But cutting the nails first, then using this to soften them down a bit more, really is nice. The sanding pads are strong, and may well last a while. I like that they are velcro replaceable. And the form factor of this nail file is easy to hold and maneuver. I would recommend this, especially if you can keep up with filing your dogs nails more often, instead of clipping them less often.

Great to smooth out my dogs nails after a clipping
The nail file works as expected. Now my dog liking it is another thing. The sand paper felt a bit rough and it does come with a few replacements but wished it was not as coarse. It almost feels like a hand held sander that I have for wood working, and it is pretty much the same idea. The handle is round and makes it nice to grip to fully utilize all the edges. but I might try finer sandpaper replacement.

It takes a very long time, but it works
This is good to make your dogs nails less sharp. But I would not really use it instead a nail clipper. It takes a very long time and patience and most dogs probably could not stay still for that long.

Dog Nail File
This is a great idea. The wood round handle top is compact and small enough to hide from a nervous dog. The sandpaper helps file down and smooth the nails and works well. The hardest part was getting our anxious pup to relax and then I worked on a few nails at a time, following up with a treat. This does come with replacement headsThank you for reading my review.
