We had been keeping our knives in a kitchen drawer and I asked my wife if perhaps we needed a knife block. She agreed and I went looking. This was the first time I came across these wooden/magnetic holders. We had a magnetic strip holder when I was a young man and it was convenient but the metal bars did scratch the knives. Reading reviews of several models I was concerned that we might get stuck with one with inadequate magnets. That is NOT the case here.The knife block arrived well packaged and included a small bag with a teacup hook, another, heavier hook, a few diffent wood screws and what appears to be a polished metal screw cap. Examing the item I found one small pilot hole predrilled on one edge near the top. There were no instructions as to what I might do with all this. My best guess is that the beefy hook would go on the knife holder and the teacup hook into your cabinetry somewhere so you could hang this thing up but I foresee no need for that at all.The holder's magnetic strength was more than adequate to hold my largest knives and there seemed to be no variation in field strength anywhere over the surface. The acrylic shields on this one do exactly what they're intended to: keep your fingers and those of your children away from exposed edges. I rate that a large improvement over other designs, but it does come with a small cost I will get to in a second. This holder has a small lip to allow you to store a small to medium cutting board with the holder. I am using it to store an 18x24 plastic board. That's a little large for the scale of the holder, but it works and I'm happy.Okay, here's the rub. When adding or removing knives from this holder, particularly given the presence of the acrylic shields, it is necessary to lift the knives upward. If your knife is large and your cabinets are not mounted high, you may find that you run into your cabinets before the knife has cleared the holder. Now I was initially thinking that this was an unintended consequence of the acrylic shields, but every video I found of people using these wooden/magnetic holders shows them sliding the knives in and out in this manner and I am certain that if you attempted to simply peel them off the holder, you would have to either brace the holder with your other hand or risk dumping it on its side. So this is a drawback to all these sorts of holders. I have seen a few models that were slanted which could help with this issue. Alternatively, you can simply keep the holder somewhere it is not shaded by your upper cabinets if you have such a spot.We alleviated the problem by simple angling the knives in the holder. It still holds 6 knives this way, with no crowding and that is more than we use on a day to day basis. I simply don't dress enough sides of beef. The unit is well constructed, tightly assembled, well finished, attractive, functional and, to be honest, the least expensive model we came across. I would rate it an excellent value. It's still sitting in our kitchen full of knives and I suspect will remain there for many years to come.

This knife block is the greatest. It's sleek. It's slim and it's well made. Delivery was very quick. Love it!

Counter space in my kitchen is limited so this saves space . Holds 2 large cutting boards. A very sleek design. Love it!!

I needed a safe place to store these beautiful knives that are scalpel sharp! The rack works perfectly for my needs and looks nice with my knives. Totally happy with this purchase.

I wish I would have found this years ago! It’s a great space saver and there’s no confusion about what knife you’re pulling out. It’s sturdy, easy to clean and looks very chic on the counter.

It had a crack in one side and two areas chipped in one panel, un aceptable! I decided to return it. Not sure if I’d like to get another one, although I really liked it.

The colour of the Acacia timbre is quite a bit darker than we expected, thinking to match other Acacia butcher's block we have. Is solid and our large cutting board fits right in the slot behind. Much less space now taken op on the counter top.A few months later: very difficult to clean, the perspex wont detach (no those are not screws) and gets messy behind that pane; the Acacia wood is soft & scratches easily inside the perspex from the knives going in & out.So no, we bought another with removable perspex panes & made out of tougher bamboo.
