Used this to enhance the soundproofing of a solid core door in my room, and it has proven to be effective.The MLV effectively added mass to the door, contributing to improved soundproofing by minimizing sound transmission. I also used Green Glue and MLV nails along with MLV tape at the seams.The door now feels more substantial, and the barrier has played a significant role in reducing both airborne and impact noise, creating a quieter and more private space.Installation on the door was straightforward, and the flexibility of the material allowed for easy adaptation to the door's surface. The vinyl pads were easy to cut and the plan was to adhere to my wooden door with Green Glue bass dampening adhesive, but instead I just used wood staples and then covered the MLV with dense fiber white acoustic panels.The added mass has made a noticeable difference, particularly in enhancing the door's ability to block out unwanted sound effectively.However, it's essential to note that the Mass Loaded Vinyl Soundproof Barrier does come with a notable drawback—the strong toxic odor. During installation, the odor was quite potent, and had to use acoustic panels to cover the MLV on the door to block the smell. Users with sensitivity to odors or those looking for a more discreet solution may find this aspect challenging.In terms of value for money, the barrier is competitively priced for its soundproofing capabilities, but the strong odor is a factor that potential buyers should consider. This is an interesting product with a very specific purpose. I’ve used similar products in my vehicles to help with noise reduction with great results. I tested lining up several of these panels to see if it helped reduce the noise level on the other side of them and it appears to do so. They are pretty heavyweight and can conform to light curves. The fabric backing should help with gluing too.I think where these will really shine is when used as part of the backing to another acoustic treatment like 3-4” foam wedges or behind a large acoustic panel. That is what I’m planning on using these with. Definitely recommend to help reduce sound transmission.
