Enjoyable but inaccuracies
A steamy story. I was in quandary with this one. I liked the story and enjoyed it. But, there are some inaccuracies. Dukes cannot normally pick who is their heir, so that part was wrong, and whilst this is fiction the blowing up of a building also seems a bit stretched. This grates, but as I said I enjoyed it so I have gone with 4 stars, just beware of the possible inaccuracies. The other thing I have noticed is this is book one in the series, book 2 deals with her twin sister. However books 3&4 appear to be their 2 older sisters, but in this book they are already married. So it seems the timelines for these books are confused - most series would start with whoever marries first and follows the timeline thereafter. Here we see them already married in an early book, and then go back to see how they met and married their husbands. Seems odd to me but let’s see when I get to books 3&4.

Lily & the Laird - loved it!!!
The Farthingale family is a family you want to know and be part of. Lily is one of the 5 Farthingale girls, who this series is centred around; besides Lily there is her twin sister, Dillie, as well as Daisy, Lauren and Rose. There also the partners of these sisters and Uncle George. As the story goes along we meet other characters and see potential stories for them as well. This particular story is focused on Lily and Ewan Cameron, Lord or Laird Carnach. His dog ensures they meet as he falls for Lily and literally makes her fall as a result of his enthusiasm. They are brought into each other company by a family friend and neighbour, Lady Eloise, the Royal Society of Science, a pledge made on a death bed and a family feud. It's not a boring plot and I enjoyed the Farthingale's honesty; the characters have depth and there is humour. I am looking forward to catching up with the Farthingale family and these of Meats Platt's books! Make sure you also read the free novella on Meara's website.....it tells Evie's story ( she is Ewan's cousin)! Uncle George is also cameos in another story 'A Match made in Duty', which I also thoroughly enjoyed.

It was my own fault I didn't read the book details.....
I usually avoid any book by American writers involving the Scots because they invariably get everything wrong about background So it jars. In this case, MP crucified the Scottish accept, portrayed both Ewan as a rough diamond from the backwoods etc etc etc.with little knowledge or experience of society - Meggie as well. Not to mention all the other historical howlers already listed by reviewkers. If a writer chooses a specific historical era - get it right. I gave up around chapter 4. Sorry

A great read.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story. It is funny, light hearted and I loved the Farthingale clan who are all endearing. I went on to read all 5 books but must point out that they are in the wrong order if you want to read them chronologically. I will definitely read them again but next time start with book 5. Thank you Meara Platt for hours of entertainment.

Pleasant - but with a major flaw.
This is a pleasant, fun read. The main characters, Lily (and her twin sister Dillie) and Ewan (and his dog Jasper) are likeable and there is a plot that keeps your interest. But, and it is a big but, there is a major mistake that invalidates one of the main planks of the story line.Ewan's grandfather is a Duke. This Duke has evidently decided to leave his title to his younger grandson and Ewan has left Scotland to come South and try to persuade his grandfather to leave the title to him. It is necessary as an author to research details of things - historical or cultural - that are not perhaps well know. Certainly, to those outside of Britain, the intricacies of the honours system needs understanding and explaining. One of the basics of inheritance - from a duke down to the most lowly baronet - is that it is automatic and runs down from eldest son to eldest son. There is no ability to 'leave' the title to whichever family member the holder favours. All the property and money can be willed away, but the title follows an unbending pattern (known as male primogeniture). In this case, the heir would have been Ewan's father (the eldest son), and on his death Ewan, his only son, would have become the heir. It could not be switched to Desmond.Well, this kept irritating me all the way through! So four stars is the maximum I can give this book. However, if this doesn't bother you, then you will probably enjoy the story very much.

Likeable characters
I don't know why I enjoyed this book, because on all levels it is over the top. The kidnapping plot was rather thin I thought and I did slightly resent the manly highlander thing having met several They were nothing like Swan believe me!Propriety in Regency era was a must, yet this is all done away with big time. The language used by Lily would never have happened and her family seem to allow her to do as she pleases. Lily is also too good to be true.Yet the characters were lively and at many times humerous. I liked them, but I do think an author needs to be aware not to put too much modern female spirit into historical prose.

I love Lily
Engagingly sweet , intelligent, quirky, and lovable. Her studies of baboons are constantly mentioned and so funny comparing them to the men she knows. This is a story of the troubled Cameron family lead by the elderly Duke of Lothiel. Ewan his grandson comes from Scotland to attempt to reconcile the family. It’s a fun tale of stubbornness, adventure, romantic love, and betrayals. It also has a wonderful ending. Gad I love these Farthingales. This happens to be my second reading of this series!

delightful
An excellent story from the first word to the last. Fabulous characters, especially the hound! This book will be loved by all historic romance fans, and I think by just about everyone who reads it. One of my most enjoyed books on kindle, the other was a Steampunk by lindsey Buroker. These are in my opinion, for what its worth two of the most excitng books , and they are not even from the same genre. They both though give the reader an exciting, fantastic, romantic and well written book that does make you believe in the happy ever afters, even for those who are a little different perhaps. Great read Meara, thankyou. x

Misbehaving dog upstages hero
This series is a bit like Bridget Jones but in Regency England. ‘My Fair Lily’ is very funny, sweet and moves at a good pace. I must say I don’t understand the negative reviews. I don’t think HR comes much better than this.‘Fair Lily’ has many great characters. As well as a stubborn Scots hero there is a bad dog that steals quite a few scenes. At the centre of the story is Lily, an academic and the brightest of her family. However her research is rejected due to her gender and she retaliates with justifiable outbursts. Lily is no wimp and her courage has you really wanting her HEA. Her Scots hero Ewan is very chivalrous and endearing. Best of all are Lily’s annoying loving family, surrounding her in a protective hoarde. Then there are other characters added for humour including two sensitive debutantes . But the dog is my fave. The plot is well paced but it’s standard HR fare. Couple have hots for each other but can’t marry because (some obstacle) then there is a mysterious would be assassin. I reckon it’s the same plot as half of all HR novels, but the author gives it a lot of life. My only complaint is the pure evil of the villains...this makes them less believable. Still it’s a lot of fun. If you like a laugh and human warmth, you will enjoy this book.
