Wouldn't this tool also work for driving nails back when pulling nails out of used lumber?

I don't know. If the head is under 10mm diameter it will work.

Can this be used to sink nails in deck boards that are pulling out over time? I have a bad back and need to sink a lot of nail heads while standing up

You could use it for that application, but you would need to be sitting down. The Longhammer is not long enough for that use standing up. I would recommend the medium size Longhammer. The XL is for flat head nails. Thanks from Spencer.
