The media could not be loaded. The KATO Union Pacific Big Boy in N scale is top of the line quality model train. The basic build of the model train is sturdy, mostly Diecast. The surface detail is Unbeat on this model.The connecting rods look amazing whether it’s stationary or moving. And this locomotive moves fast and hauls a lot of cars. The model works on Bachman tracks not just KATO track, which is great if you’re trying to save money on cheaper tracks. And I was able to get the coupler to latch onto the Bachman train cars. Overall, very very pleased worth the money.

This big boy train is absolutely awesome. It runs fantastic, looks fantastic, and can pull over 50 cars on my track so far without any hesitation, or problems. I'd try pulling more cars but that's all I have... This is such a good train I feel like buying another one, to have as a spare. Worth every penny.... mine runs so good there's nothing bad I can say about this train. If you're on the fence about buying one for your self. I'd buy it while you still can. Because once there gone there usually gone and can be years before they might make more of them. I'd get another one but after seeing mine my dad is buying one. So in a sense I'll have a back up train . Lol. I'm very happy with this train so far. It has about 15 hours on it already.

Watch the YouTube short about rebuilding this Union Pacific 4014 one-of-a-kind and taking it on a tour of the United States and showing off the years of restoration. You'll appreciate this model even more. True to the real thing! Yes, you can pay much more and find a Big Boy with smoke and smartphone guided voices, don't bother. This is the best bargain ever!!

Kato always works I have never had a problem with Kato trains

Too small, no remote control and no train track,,, and it’s too expensive, it’s only for display not for use

I bought this model for my brother-in-law who is a serious train enthusiast. Trains in this scale (N) are pretty popular where he lives (in Japan), where space is at a premium, and it was great to give him something that he’d enjoy and would fit within his home’s size constraints. The model was so finely detailed and well-made that I’ve started thinking about taking up this hobby (in this same smaller N-scale) myself!

Kato is famous for detail and quality and this is no exception. However, I just wish they would have made it DCC ready. I know, Kato is supposed to come out with full DCC with sound soon, but in the meantime what am I going to do with this one if I want to eventually have DCC on it? I've seen where it's a real bear to install that system on this particular model. That's the only reason I gave it 4 stars rather than 5.
