Vicks RapidRead Digital Thermometer

We actually use this thermometer for our dog and it seems very accurate. Easy to use and has different functions depending where you want to take the temperature. Screen is bright and easy to read.

Disappointed with this thermometer. Upon arrival, it did not work with the battery it came with. I changed the battery and it turned on, but I’m not convinced it worked correctly. Every temperature I took, it registered as 100.2. I used it maybe 5 times before it stopped working completely. It now gives an error message, tries to read a temp, then gives lines on the screen like it can’t read a temp. I was excited to use this due to being able to read a quick temp. Will be going back to other slower thermometers now :(

There is a small mini-booklet in the package that explains how to set up the thermometer (arm, mouth, or groin) for the first time. Once this is setup, the thermometer will go through a 10 second self check, zero out the display, and within two seconds this thermometer gives wicked fast, wicked accurate results with an easy to interpret stoplight color lit screen (green, yellow, red). I don't know why anyone who gets one would buy anything else.

4. SET A PREFERRED TEMPERATURE MEASUREMENT SITE To save a preferred temperature measurement site, so that the preferred site will be automatically selected when the thermometer is turned ON, follow these steps. a. Make sure the thermometer is turned OFF. b. Press and hold the blue SITE SELECTION button and, without releasing it, then press and hold the gray POWER button. Release both buttons when the site selection icon appears with 3 flashing dots. c. Press the SITE SELECTION button until the desired temperature measurement site is selected. d. Wait 4 seconds for the site indicator dot to stop flashing. e. Press the POWER button to turn the thermometer OFF. f. The preferred temperature measurement site will be automatically selected when the thermometer is turned ON. NOTE: With a preferred temperature measurement site selected, an alternate temperature measurement site can still be selected during each use by pressing the blue SITE SELECTION button when the site selection icon appears after the thermometer is turned ON. g. To remove the preferred temperature measurement site setting, open the battery door, remove the battery and reinsert it. IMPORTANT: To ensure accurate readings, you must always take a temperature reading at the site on the individual that corresponds to the site selected on the thermometer.

I like these thermometers. They are quick and easy. My complaint is they come with dead batteries. Once the battery is changed out they work great. Why even 'include' a battery if it's going to be useless?

So much for the Vicks name! I bought it due to its long standing reputation and brand name. Now I'm lying here in bed and I can't tell if I have a fever or not. Each time I take it, seconds to minutes apart, it's a different reading. Sometimes it's normal. Sometimes it says I have a high fever. I have no freaking idea which one it is so I'll just lie here and hope the normal reading is accurate. I tried to get my money back but Amazon wouldn't refund my money even though it's defective. Such a waste of money. If you want a thermometer that doesn't give you a reading within a 4 degree difference, don't get this one. I really wish I bought a thermometer that works. I just needed it this one time and would buy a more expensive one at the store later, but even that didn't work because IT DOESNT WORK. :( I hope I don't die.

The battery was dead on arrival, but it works well after we replaced it. I primarily wanted this for rectal temp and you have to press the on button then the "route" button three times with a pause between the before you get to the rectal option, which is definitely not convenient when you have a sick and squirmy baby you need an accurate temp on. The accuracy is also debatable, when I'm able to get baby to stay still, I take the temp 3 times, and often the second temp is a full degree less than the 1st and 3rd. I do appreciate the flexible tip though.
