It binds firmly on the teeth and gums thus working for a longer time. We apply it with a finger, wearing a disposable glove. Make sure you get right to the big back teeth. My cat has chewed right through the one provided** A: My wife uses a finger with dentisept in our dogs mouth, rubbed on the gums. He seems used to it now and doesn't cause a fuss. **Q: How good is this to get plaque off teeth ... do you have to brush too** A: Hello if very early, minor tartar and staining plus some early possible mild gum disease Dentisept works very well. If any significant accumulations ( most dogs ) you may need to get the teeth cleaned first at your vets, and then start brushing. Brushing should be mandatory for all new puppies ;-) as we see dogs with advanced dental disease every day at the clinic and in most cases the condition is totally preventable. If you are at all unsure make a nurse appointment with your local vets and get some very valuable advice ( the nurse will upgrade the consult to a vet if they are worried ).
