Grease is the word
Only the smallest amount is needed and allows the slides to move freely but not so loose that they fall out.I have only recently started using it, but am pleased with results so far.

I used this for my bagpipes. Placed this on my Drones so I can tune with ease.

Use it appropriately
Don't use it on the balance pins on your piano - whatever they tell you it's not good there. For brass instruments perhaps - but not on the keys of your piano.

Great for using on plastic & rubber too!
I actually purchased this to lubricate a joystick. I didn’t want to use petroleum based grease as it would have adverse effects on the plastic & rubber. This Silicone / PTFE based grease is perfect and has worked a treat.
