A replacement would likely be difficult to source. A similar fridge/freezer may be difficult to find. The solution was to have a sensor that would turn the fridge power on and off in order to control the temperature.The lead to the temperature sensor was routed past the seal on the hinge side of the fridge cabinet and the sensor was positioned in the top of the cabinet. The old fridge thermostat was set at maximum.The new control unit turn on temperature was set to 4.4 C and the turn off temperature was set to 3.9 C. This ensured that the freezer section was always colder than -18 C (typically -20 C).The ratio of the turn on and turn off times with this setting is about 1:1.4 which must give a saving on electricity consumption. As shown in the picture, I have connected it to a tubular heater (as it is an on/off system) and this just helps to ensure the temperature doesn't drop below the set value in the tortoises shed set up.
