Pool cleaning cotton balls
I purchased these thinking they would be better than sand, at first they seem to work good but within a week these cotton balls seem to make the water worse with a smell. The bag did not last through 5 washes, so i went back to sand, I wonder if it was the salt water in the pool, maybe for chlorine pool these would work better.

Love these balls!
I will just come out and say it, I love these balls!! Go ahead, laugh! But I do love them. I will admit, I was skeptical at first. But the pool store was out of filter sand and I wanted my pool up and running and didn't want to wait 2 weeks to get sand. I saw other reviews and read about using pool balls to replace sand in the pool filter pump so I decided to give them a shot. Trust me, just get these! I have used approximately half the amount of chemicals so far this season, have had to use no algae killing products and have the most beautiful clear water ever. Plus I rarely need to backwash. They are so easy to clean too. Just throw into the washer with the included mesh bag and you are done! The fact that one bag replaces about $100 of heavy, sharp sand is incredible to me! 100/10

SIMPLY DO NOT expect a clear pool with these: NONE OF THESE TYPES BACK WASH correctly. :(
The product MIGHT work for some people over the long haul, but we had to unfortunately GO BACK TO SAND filtration because these failed us:YES, they filter the gunk, BUT they hold onto it too well, and don't allow for proper/decent/and often backwashing, at least with our 300lb sand filtration system. Our pool NEVER got clear with this new product we tried from the beginning of the swim season. I did ALL the chemicals (we're with 20 years of this pool's ownership), as well as the ones recommended by two different pool shops. We got CLOSE to clear water, but it always remained cloudy, at-best...and our struggle with algae was more pronounced than usual (seasons-past).I almost kept after it for another month (atop the nearly-two we already gave them their shot), but I got so frustrated with not having our typically glorious pool to share, I opened the filter and replaced with the OLD sand. Our water was absolutely sparkling CLEAR within 30 hours thereafter!I noticed the residual water inside our filter AFTER I HAD BACK WASHED, remained a very murky and stinky (like fish/algae) greenish white cess that I removed with the nasty, nearly slimy balls to be washed. It was recommended by all these companies to wash them between seasons in a clothes washing machine, but I WOULD NEVER do it in such a condition without expecting NUMEROUS wash cycles and possibly not using it for clothes again...it was simply a nasty process to toss them into a pop up dog pool and wash with hose, again and again and again and again over the next 3 days before getting even close to thinking they'd MAYBE be able to go through a clothes washing machine a few more times before thinking they were clean enough to offer anyone who'd like to try for whatever.Yes, they filter, but they do NOT easily release it when a pool owner would like to flush the nasties away from normal cycling. This is NOT what I hoped for by being an 'early adopter' of this product (which, by the way: BOTH pool shops hadn't yet heard of these as a product/media for pool filtration systems), and I cannot in any way recommend that anyone else try to learn the hard way that postponed our family and friends from desirable swimming conditions as long as it did for many missed hours and days!Too bad; I really WANTED them to work properly.
