PfluegerPresident Spinning Fishing Reel

Given how many people love this reel, I want to believe I received a bad unit. I've had this reel out fishing a half dozen times now, have tried two different sized mono spools, and have 10lb braid on it now...It simply is not usable. The line twist is so bad on this reel (while fishing texas-rigged plastics, or anything else) that the line comes off in loops, gets stuck under the body if you're not paying attention, etc.It's gorgeous, but it's useless. I have never had any problems like this on any other reel. Wish I could return this thing.

So many have told me how good this reel is. When I got it, I loved it -- smooth and light. Then I developed a problem where the braided line I used got caught in the bail -- making the retrieve very rough; where the line feeds through the bail there's two pieces that come together, and the line gets caught there. Amazon does not allow return after 30 days, so back to Pflueger (at my cost) it goes for a warranty repair. If I can get this corrected at minimal cost and like the replacement product, then I'll update this review with my thoughts. As of right now I'm VERY disappointed and can't recommend this reel.

Have purchased 12 model 25’s in the last month. Was using Shimano Sedonas but really like the more solid feel and smooth retrieve of the President. Converted all my other light action rods to Fleuger Presidents but it seems like their QC is lacking. Had to send back two of the twelve because of grinding in the bearings. Huge difference between the good reels and bad ones. That being said, if it feels terrible, don’t give up, exchange it right away and you should wind up with a great functioning reel in the end - but it’s frustrating to have filter through the bs. I guess they are Chinese bulk production after all...

What a great reel. Way more than expected at its price point. Way better than Soug.... what's its name and Psicifun cheap stuff.7/6/2018. Dropped some stars. I have three of these. Returning one because the gears are grinding. Feels like the oscillating gear. Towards the back of the reel is where I feel the grinding.August 2018. Another one and the gears/bearing isn't right. Not grinding. Not smooth either. Can feel something isn't right when you crank it slowly. Catches but that's not it either.I took the one doing this apart. Figured I'd clean it and relube it. Its like the previous lube/grease had dried in places? Blue grit that wasn't paint. Not flakes of metal like from the housing. I could squish it between my fingers with some pressure. Small like grains of sand but not sand. Was scattered about inside the reel and getting in between gears. The bearings are semi sealed so didn't seem to be down inside the bearings. I could feel the roughness when I reeled slowly however. Cleaned, relubed. Back together. Smooth again. I bet the one I sent back was the same thing as it felt exactly like this one. I expect more from a reel at this price point and reputation.

I paired this reel with a 6' 6" medium fast Ugly Stick Elite based on popular review. Sorry, contrarians! I fed 10 lb test hybrid line onto the reel to be used initially as a weightless setup for flukes and stick-baits.The reel is plenty smooth whilst reeling and has enough drag range for its size, however, I found it a little difficult to hone in setting the drag. I missed a few bass, but that may have been my fault. The drag seems like its a fine line between too tight and taught for my taste. The bail is thick and makes a good click for casting then when set back for retrieve. The line twist did not seem unmanageable either, which is good.One thing to keep in mind is that the 30X size reel stalk is a little short or tight on the rod, so beware if you have larger hands or like the space. So far, so good!I recommend this $60 reel for someone looking for a reel in the mid price range. Time will tell how these shape up against the last generations of Presidents.

3000 vs 4000, the 3000 is just 1/4 inch smaller than the 4000. Both would be perfect for bass, walleye. I would go 4000 for channels, and pike. The 3000 will go 6 lb at 230yd, 8lb185,the 4000 starts at 8 lb285 yds . Both super excellent reels! I have many. I'm using the 4000 for 5 inch swimbaits 3000 for 1/2 ounce jig heads. I measured the reels the 4000 from top of spool to bottom of reel is 5 inches long, the 3000 is 4 3/4 inch. The 3000 is top in photo, 4000 is bottom.

I am a pflueger fan boy, but I will try to give this an objective review. I purchased a size 20 for bobber fishing specifically. It feels good in the hand, and seems to be well made as are my other pflueger reels. I have a 4 pound line on it and it casts very smoothly. Bail opens and closes without fail. The only thing that is different on this one vs my other pflueger reels (granted all other are the president XT different sizes) is that when you open spin the spool it only rotates 1.5 to 2 times. My other reels rotate close to 10 lines. I lubricated this reel as I do all my others and that didn't change the behavior. It is really not a big deal, but something I wanted to mention. I landed a 13" 1.25 crappie using the reel earlier this year.

Hooked into a big musky while walleye fishing and it simply overwhelmed my old reels drag system. Decided to buy a new reel without breaking the bank. After a long search I decided on the Pflueger President. Fantastic reel smooth casting with a fantastic drag system and great looking. Same lake a couple weeks later walleye fishing again hooked into another huge musky. This time this 27 pounder didn’t win. The President reel out performed the musky. Highly recommend this reel.

I was very excited to finally get this in the mail. Unfortunately, as soon as I took it out of the Amazon shipping bag, I realized that the blister pack had been opened up before and retaped..... There was also some signs on the reel that it had been used before.... It appears to be working properly, so I'll keep it, since I need it soon, but this is very disappointing

What a nice reel. First time out I bagged a 20 lb Musky and the drag worked perfectly! Which I think is the most important function of any reel. The reel is smooth. Line spools perfectly and it looks great. I will be added a few more to the arsenal!

Love this new real. Smooth action with the 10 bearing system. Good casting distance and easy to put the lure where you want. I have already bought another one identical but smaller for my crappie rod.
