Due to the sudden rise in the price of copper materials from the mid-1960s to the 1970s, aluminum wires are widely used in the United States. Therefore, the houses built in that period are likely to be connected by aluminum wire layout.

Aluminum wire is less conductive than copper wire, and as the number of household appliances increases, aluminum wire can become overwhelmed, multiplying the potential for overheating, and ultimately prone to electrical fires.
