Awesome ice maker and the price is right
I’m not sure why this ice maker says frequently returned item because it’s great! Easy to install and the ice cubes aren’t humongous, they’re a perfect size. Maybe a bit smaller than your typical ice cube tray ice cubes but it works great. 5 ⭐️’s all the way.

Poor instructions, undocumented temp requirement, water leaked into ice bin, TERRIBLE tech support
The installation instructions are poorly written - there are parts in the parts list ("leveling bracket screw") that are never mentioned in the instructions, there are parts mentioned in the instructions ("self drilling screws", "the long screw") that are neither in the parts list nor the package, there is a part in the package (a tiny blue clip) that is not mentioned anywhere. (It goes on the water inlet on the back of the fridge, just above where the supply line plugs in, to lock the sharkbite-type connector on the inlet.)Nowhere in the book does it say that it will not produce ice if the freezer is above 10°.Midea online chat didn't know why it wasn't producing ice, and couldn't answer my question about a specific temperature requirement; they transferred my question to email-based product support. That team is USELESS - the most you can hope for is one email per day. It's been 5 days and they haven't even tried to answer the question yet. First they asked for a lot of documentation including receipts and a video of the problem - how do you video "not making ice" - and after I sent all that, they couldn't figure out why I had sent them a copy of the Lowe's receipt for the fridge (which they had specifically asked for) as well as the Amazon receipt for the ice maker (relevant to the problem). I would have thought it was obvious. I explained all that over 48 hours ago, and have not heard back from them. I figured out the temperature thing on my own, when we found the ice cream was soft and the freezer temp was 17° - I bumped it up to the next-colder setting, it dropped to 4°, and happily produced ice all night long.UPDATE: It took Midea email support two full weeks to tell me the harvesting process only begins when the freezer is "consistently below 10° F". Meanwhile, six days ago, I had already told them I had figured out that problem but had a new one - the tray was leaking water down into the ice bin, freezing everything together in a solid slab. They finally acknowledged those messages, and now I'm waiting for a reply again. I cannot in good conscience recommend this or any other Midea product, on the basis of repeated problems and their inexcusably poor support. Downgrading to one star.UPDATE #2: when they finally replied, they said the ice maker was not included with the fridge (no kidding), that installation issues are not covered by warranty (who said anything about warranty, I just asked for help diagnosing), and - this is bizarre - that the ice maker is designed to be installed by the consumer, a plumber, or a professional installer, so I should have the person who actually installed it reach out to them. We had already covered the fact I installed it myself. I responded, objecting to every statement in their reply. Haven't heard from them since.

Easy to install
We picked up a couple of basic Midea refrigerators from our local wholesale warehouse. They came ice-maker ready. I've had experience installing an ice-maker in my last fridge so I knew it wasn't that difficult. This kit was easy to install but I felt the instructions could've been a little clearer. Included are two water feeder tubes, but the instructions don't mention that you use either one based on the model of your fridge. Also I felt the order of the installation procedure was a bit mixed up, eg. installed the feeder tube before connecting the poly tubing, it was much easier to install the poly tubing on the feeder tube before attaching it to the fridge.Otherwise overall installation was easy and it produces the perfect amount of ice for daily use. I purchased a second one to install on the refrigerator in the basement.

Great Maker
This Ice Maker was a straightforward install. The only thing that was on my refrigerator was the electrical connection. This looks more difficult than it is, and one of the few projects where the instructions are better than a YouTube video. I do recommend watching a few videos first, and then using the instructions for the details. For the install a mirror and a work light makes this much easier. The electrical connection is directional and it's hard to know if you have it in correctly without the mirror. I wasn't sure there was a cap in there until I used the mirror and light. The instructions said to wait between 24 and 48 hours for ice. I had ice when I checked after 6 hours. After 24 hours, the ice bucket was 2/3rds full. I have my freezer on the coldest setting. This takes up as much space as an ice bucket and 4 trays. That's about how much I would need to keep up with the needs of my family. It's worth the cost, space, and convenience.
