New Kidde FireX KF20 Mains Powered Optical Smoke Alarm Fire Detector with 9V Battery Backup

A perfect replacement for my old kidde firex 4870 alarms. No rewire needed and I used the old base plate. Installed in 5 minutes.

I bought 2 of these and needed an electrician to install correctly (as with any mains-operated detector).I appreciate the ability to hush the low battery alarm for 8 hours, especially when it starts beeping in the middle of the night.One of my units had a poor terminal contact with the back-up battery (hence the low battery alarm sounding), but I bent the terminal slightly to achieve a better contact and all OK now. This was after the electrician dropped it from ceiling onto the hard kitchen floor!, so it's fairly robust.I also appreciate that when it needs replacement in 10 years, the base plate and electrical connector can remain in place making a swap to a new unt very easy.

My new home had an old alarm which had stopped working. I replaced the head as directed and all is working perfectly.

Bought as a replacement to an expired alarm, thrilled to find the company has maintained the same fixings over time so it's a really easy swap in/swap out. If fitting for the first time then the only extra task is fitting a plate to ceiling, which looks to be a simple case of drilling a couple of fixings in the ceiling and screwing on. The alarm works as described, hasn't given me any trouble and has a long expiry date - would buy again.

The smoke detectors were to replace old ones and we were pleasantly surprised to find that they are identical to the old ones, so easy to fit as all the connections were the same.
