Orchids of the British Isles

A truly excellent volume, bringing the information on British Orchids right up to date. Having seen most of the species growing in Britain I can personally vouch for the accuracy of the written information and the excellent pictures. There seems to have been some changes in nomenclature over the last 25 years since I was most active in photographing these beautiful plants, and this volume is probably useful to even those with an orchid library that is more than a few years old.The book covers every species currently know to grow within the British Isles, plus articles on identification, conservation, and photographing orchids. This is a large size book of nearly 400 pages with detailed notes and many illustrative photos all in color.

A first class text on this topic.with excellent chapters on biology, ecology and identification of these plants. The text is very well illustrated with the photographs of Sydney Clarke who I suspect may have been dissapointed with the reproduction of his images which throughout the book are slighly soft. I have seen his images elsewhere and know them to be needle sharp.

Not a field guide, and not *fully* up to date, but still comfortably my favourite book on British orchids -- authoritative and well illustrated

A complete treatise of the orchids of the British Isles. The taxonomy of this group is contencious so some people may disagree with some of the status of some of the speices that have been included. (I like others interested in this group did) That said as a feild guide it is accurate explains the taxonimy and is really usful for all feild naturalists interested in the family of orchids. proberly the best boog of its type available.
