The walls are thick and feel solidly built. I bought 2 of these Refillable, Empty Water Filter Cartridge Universal Big Blue (4.5" D x 20" H). They fit perfectly into Pentek 20" Big Blue filter housings. I loaded them with mixed resin bought here on desertcart. It took THREE 5 pound bags of resin to completely fill both cartridges. I took my time loading the resin, making sure it was packed tight. My spot free rinse system consists of three filters. First in line is a 10 inch Pentek Big Blue filter housing loaded with an Icepure Big Blue Sediment and Activated Carbon Water Filter, (to clean up the chlorine and chemicals in the water so the resin will better do its job and las longer) then the two Pentek Big Blue 20" housings loaded with the resin. My water before filtering was 180 ppm TDS....after filtering I'm reading a grand total of zero TDS.... Universal Slimline (2.5" x 10"), Big Blue (4.5" x 10") & Big Blue (4.5" x 20") This canister is a great value, I bought the 4.5x20" version. It allows you to use activated carbon that you can buy in bulk bags on desertcart, instead of the pre-made carbon filters. The cartridge has a filter built into the twist-lock top which is to keep the carbon granules from passing through. In addition there is a 2" thick piece of soft foam that you put on top of your carbon to keep it from reaching the twist-lock top. The water enters through the bottom through a fibrous filter, which keeps the carbon from falling out the bottom. I really wanted to move from pre-filled filters to a solution that allows me to modify a filter for ever changing needs. First, this one is clear, as in "see through", and that was number one for me since I only use clear housings. This allows me to both monitor the filter status, and to avoid break through. Second, the water flow is perfect for my applications, and third, they're inexpensive, and fit all of my various makes of 4.5x20 housings.
