I use this with knives, chisels, and my (single blade) straight razor. Unless you’ve really beat your blades up, you can just do this for a few minutes every couple weeks. If the blades are bad, use a stone then this. It’s a useful skill that is pretty easy to learn. You can get more life out of good and bad metal. Don’t live with dull blades. Don’t waste money on throwing them away and replacing them. Buy this, put some boiled linseed or shellac on the wood (or don’t), and use it a little every week.

This strop is made from some of the best leather I have ever encountered. It possesses the perfect smoothness. I really appreciate the size and width of this strop. It feels comfortable in the hand and does its job effectively. The leather has remained intact and has held up well with regular use. You can use a leather knife strop kit to sharpen everything from chip knives to bushcraft knives, as well as both small and large axes. I typically strop my woodcraft tools before and after each project, or every 30 to 40 minutes, depending on the wood, to polish the metal and achieve a razor-sharp finish.
