The switching is 99% silent, however, we have a buzzing noise while on, I had to ask the ladies of the house if it would annoy them while relaxing in the bath as it would annoy me, they were OK with it. It sounds like the "50 cycle hum" but it is low on volume, if you have music on in the back ground, you would not hear it at all. Like a few people have mentioned they were fed up with being woke up in the middle of the night by the standard bathroom light switch making a noise throughout the house, this device will cure that issue.
