Mastering Project Management
What a wonderful book on project management. The author describes what project management is, how to create a project plan, and the different phases that exist. He covers traditional project management and newer versions of it that have evolved, such as Waterfall, Agile, Scrum, and PRINCE2.The author explains the various types of project management, what are the important tenets of each and which is best for different types of projects. He goes into a lot of detail into each phase, different software you can use, along with visualization tools available like Gantt Charts and Kanban boards. It is a good comprehensive book that goes in to detail into each area of project management, what you should do to be successful and the various places that project managers typically fail. Finally, he covers final deliverables, project closer and doing a project review and releasing resources. I thought it was a very good book, well done and one that any project manager would love to have as a resource.

For The Seasoned Project Manager and the Beginner
It takes a talented writer to write for the expert and the beginner in the same book. But that is how Mr. Hayden writes in this book. It is obvious he is an experienced Project Manager, and he not only gives advice, but gives you an overview of project management in general, and the foundations of it. But then he jumps right into the meat of the matter - and lays out so many ways to start the project, including so many methodologies to use. He includes the SWOT method, that I used with my teams, but there are so many more that I could have used!I love the way he lays out a plan for you to use - he doesn’t just give you ideas, he lays it out in a way that you can implement it successfully, and more importantly, confidently. That is so important when leading a team!I highly recommend this book to any level of project manager! And not just those in a project manager position - also for those professionals who are leading a project even though they are in other roles in their company.

A helpful guide from start to finish
I like how user-friendly this book is! Anyone that is in a leadership position can learn a lot from this book. Anyone in charge of heading up a specific project will really benefit from this book’s teachings. There are a ton of visual charts, diagrams, and illustrations throughout the book with relevant examples to help you navigate your plan. The book starts out with the planning phase of the project and walks you through how to implement goals, how to stay on track when changes come up, how to close out projects in phases, and so much more! Also noteworthy is the helpful summary at the end of each chapter making this a resource you can quickly come back to and reference as you take on your project!

A great reference manual
If you are setting up a PMO or working with a team of PMs, this book is a suggested reference manual. Certainly not as dry to read as the PMBOK and applies directly to PM roles.

Scrum Masters might not agree
You'll recognize much of the content, in line and in harmony with the PMBOK.Lots of descriptions with bullet points for tools and techniques useful to the project manager.Very happy to see the Reference section with working links for further study.Would recommend as a textbook, but 1) the treatment of Agile and 2) the artificial "versus" of Kanban vs Scrum is a bit unfair, and the latter is rarely true. Kanban makes the process visible; Scrum makes it hum.Despite what the author says in the Other Methodologies section:* Scrum masters are not project managers* The Scrum master does not "manage" the team; the team is self-managing and self-organizing* Scrum masters do not supervise anything. They are knowledgeable facilitators and obstacle removers. An index would be helpful and would add to the overall value as a reference book.

Great Read!
This is a great book if you are a newbie in project management or want to refresh your skills. Project managers can work in a lot of different industries and have a potential to earn good money. The book goes into detail on the five phases of a project (initiation, planning, execution, monitoring/control, and closure) The graphs and pictures included were helpful in understanding the material. Highly recommended!
