Miss Moon: Wise Words from a Dog Governess

For some reason, I had it stuck in my head that this was a chapter book detailing Miss Moon's adventures as a dog governess. I had even looked at the Look Inside link and admired the artwork, while thinking that the manners listed were just the chapter or section headings. I was so excited to get it for my dog-loving, chapter-reading six-year-old for Christmas. That is not what this is. This is a really lovely picture book with only the manners listed, and those briefly, and no story at all. For me, it's a disappointment since I couldn't wait to hear about the adventures of Miss Moon herself and we have plenty of really lovely picture books. I will almost certainly be returning.

This is a beautifully illustrated and clever book, one that my daughters (ages six and nine) and I enjoy reading together. They especially love pouring over the class portrait at the end, and delight in learning each dog's name. We are so excited to get Miss Mink: Cat Countess next.

I'd never thought of doing whimsical art with oils but it strikes me as genius! Each page is delightful and detailed. Janet has a lovely creative mind and the book is just precious. I think I'll be buying it for gifts, often in the future!

Absolutely love this book. The illustrations are fabulous. The text is simple and light, but cheerful and wise. A wonderful gift for someone under eight maybe or anyone of any age who loves dogs and fanciful art. Janet Hill had caught my attention when I saw a painting on Jones Design Company in her little girl's bedroom. It was not disappointed in this book! It holds all the charm I found on her web site and then some!

Love this author/artist! I have just about all of her books. Her art work is absolutely stunning, highly recommend this and others by Janet Hill.

Beautiful illustrations with great lessons for kids and reminder for adults. My 2.5 year old son loves it.

Excelente libro de Janet Hill. Cada página es un asombro lleno de detalles y de cosas divertidas relacionadas con perros y con el comportamiento humano. Tardó muchísimo tiempo en llegar! Lo compré y esperé mucho tiempo hasta que lo tuvieron en existencia y finalmente llegó en perfecto estado.

I bought this book for my 3 year old granddaughter who loves dogs and it is a gorgeous picture book! The paper and binding are lovely, the illustrations are beautiful and the text is perfect. Just right to keep a little girl engaged with all the incredible detail in the art.

Livre très joli et sympa avec de très belles illustrations et des textes de la peintre Janet Hill pleins d'humour et de sagesse. Ce sont des "leçons de vie" adressées aux chiens qu'elle garde de la part de leur gouvernante nommée Miss Moon. Nous en profitons nous aussi, et c'est bien charmant et inspirant . Un vrai plaisir de feuilleter ce livre :)

It's all about the illustrations - it's a sweet and colourful picture book with some small wise thoughts.
