Spear & Jackson 1684NB Neverbend Carbon Border Fork

Needed a good strong fork to help clear an area of overgrown garden and this is definitely it! Good quality, comfortable and easy to use. Not to heavy. Recomment.

This border fork - a ladies' fork - is very sturdy, well made, and comfortable & easy to use. The handle in particular is at an angle that helps leverage using foot pressure and this is an excellent design feature, although it does make it difficult to hang up (have to hang it tines towards the wall). I used it in a rockery, where the combination of narrow width and sturdy design was ideal. Of course it has now been used in normal borders where the dry weather makes a trowel too much like hard work. We don't like stainless steel forks, they tend to break unpredictably, cost too much, and don't work any better than properly made steel forks like this one.

Great tool, doesn’t bend like others I’ve used. Good grip and not too heavy. Would recommend best one I’ve used.

Well it’s 2025 and I’ve just put it in bin, and I am amazed it lasted so long! Ive left it outside for months at a time in the rain, worked with it continuously, not looked after it at the allotment since I purchased it in 2012! For £20 ish I’d say this workhorse is well worth the money. It didn’t bend all that time until my partner got hold of it last year, as much as I love him he has no idea how to not break any and all tools, so I’d say given that, if you don’t push it past the reasonable force you should put on a fork you’ll be fine. Absolute bargain! (And if I had changed the handle it could have carried on going)

I had one of these for years until someone “borrowed” it. It was a great, lightweight, strong fork that never bent! I bought a new one last year and when it arrived it wasn’t much like the old one, as in the tines were heavy and thick. This made it difficult to dig into the ground with. Today, while digging out some bramble roots in a flower bed one of the tines bent about 20 degrees. Conclusion; don’t bother with it. It’s only guaranteed for light work and is heavy and chunky for that kind of work.

Great quality, very strong fork. Unfortunately it took a lot longer to arrive than promised.

I have an earlier version of this fork which is amazing, however they have now made the tines much thicker, presumably because enthusiastic people must have still been bending them. However now the tines are so thick that they do not easily penetrate any but the softest soil. Fine for mixing loose soil, but not suitable for weeding or breaking up compacted soil. I bought the Spear and Jackson mirror finish stainless steel border fork and they are far superior. Tines are sharp and thin yet very strong. I'm a professional gardener and have a religious zeal about border forks. Give this one a pass and get the mirror finish one instead!
