Review: Super-handy and great for bringing a dull blade back to life in the field. - This is a really handy gadget if you do a lot of work with your knife out in the field and want to keep it in top condition. At about the same size as a cigarette lighter, it sits nicely in the hand. There are four blade sharpening options provided - the carbide "V" and the tapered diamond-coated rod are designed for recovering severely damaged blades. Use them sparingly as they will take a LOT of metal off your blade, wearing it down REALLY quickly. The two options with more finesse are the ceramic "V" and the ceramic straight-edge. The "V" can be used to quickly bring sharpness back to a dulkled (but undamaged) straight blade. The longer ceramic edge is thoughtfully shaped to make it useful with either straight blades (where you would use it like a regular butchers rod) or for sharpening the elements of a serrated blade. The body of the device is metal and it's quite weighty. There's a hole in one end to attach it to a lanyard and the tapered sharpening rod is hinged to allow it to be unfolded, being held in place by a magnet. It's very nicely put together, feels good in the hand and is easy to hold sensibly, keeping your fingers out of the way when sharpening. I've tried several pocket sharpeners over the years and this is easily the most versatile. Just remember not to get too carried away with the carbide/diamond sharpeners. If you've got a half-decent pocket-knife a decent sharpener is a good investment and I'm very happy with this one. Well worth 5 stars. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Better in the flesh *by E***R on 8 June 2016* This is almost better in the flesh than I expected from the photo. It's a good size and very solid. One of the allen key screws did come loose it's true, but that's hardly a fatal flaw and was an easy fix. Lots of stuff on the other reviews about the rat-tail diamond rod but I find the magnets hold it in place OK. This is the first time I've used a tungsten 'v' sharpener that actually works and the same goes for the ceramic 'v'. I almost wish I'd just bought a good quality diamond rod though because this one works really well. Particularly good for the tips of kitchen knives which blunt easily and are hard to sharpen. However, the 'serrated ceramic' feature was what I got this for, because it's hard to find something for actual fine serrations. This is probably not as fine as I would have liked but probably that would have made it too fragile. Still, it worked well on the food processor blade (yes really).
