I am not a great player; as a matter of fact i'm a beginner. But the "ouch" was these frets on these guitars. My kids have a few that I purchased as well. sub $500 guitars and all of them have sharp frets. So this tool did a great job in filing them down. Go slow. contour your tool a bit so that you can "shape" the fret ends so you aren't giving it a bevel but a nice rounded cap - if that makes sense.The tool itself is made very well. I am a stickler for high quality tools (Whia, Wera, Milwaukee, Vessel, etc.,) and this Music Nomal dressing file is wonderful. I would only like to see a contact in color on the non cutting edge. This way you don't make the rookie mistake as I did by going too fast and not focusing on what it was that I was doing. I rotated the file a few times by mistake and thus dug a slight bit into my fretboard - Granted it was a cheap Jackson Dinky guitar; the point is that you need to go slow. Being visually impaired I decided to alleviate that future mistake by using a black (or blue) Sharpie marker on the smooth ends of the file (not the diamond coated cutting edges). That way when I see the black (or blue or red, etc.) that the color is showing - go. The color won't cut. Yes there is an arrow on the handle, but that's harder to see then the cutting/shiny surfaces- Anyway a great tool. I don't think i'll use it more then once; unless I buy another guitar that wasn't built well. Oh and be sure to cover your pickups - they are magnetic and guess what else is?
