You have to be careful when using acetone on plastic or vinyl. Acetone can change the properties of some plastics, most notably making it brittle. The solvent in this product is NAPHTHA. I wouldn't recommend using straight naphtha either. If you wish to use a straight solvent to clean and prep for dying plastic or leather, I use alcohol, but I prefer this product. **Q: Is there any silicon in sem 38353? will it take current color out of vinyl? can it be used to clean overspray off the vinyl without damaging it.** A: I don’t believe there is silicone in this product and it will not leach the color out of vinyl. It cleans and preps as would 99% alcohol. I am unsure of overspray as I didn’t have that issue to deal with. However it does clean and prep very well. **Q: Has anyone used this prep without using Sem 39362 soap before painting on leather???????** A: Have not used it on leather however I have used it on vinyl and it works great just sprayed the prep on and let it dry good and then you're good to go **Q: Is light parchment a soft white? The lid color looks almost like a sand color?** A: it is more like a very soft off/white. It is only a preperation for painting. do you have your paint yet? If not, I can mention a great paint brand. SEM Color Coat is ready to spray Covers GREAT and sure stays on ## Customer Reviews ### ⭐⭐ Unnecessary Step *by S***Y on 23 February 2019* I bought this along with other SEM products to refinish my door panels on my truck. My panels are vinyl AND plastic, so I purchased this for the plastic parts and the vinyl prep for the vinyl parts. What I found was that both products were unnecessary purchases. When I saw they were both basically "cleaners," I took an alternate route and simply washed my panels thoroughly with dish soap, hot water and a scotchbrite pad, rinsed them completely, allowed them to dry, and wiped them down with rubbing alcohol. Don't get me wrong, I was very thorough in what I did, but the end result was perfect without the use of any SEM cleaners. After all, the adhesion comes from how well you clean and prep the surfaces, while the flexibility is in the paint. It's just my opinion, but for the cost of the products, I think it's a waste of money when a much less expensive alternative is available. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ They assured me it would look great and guided me thru the steps *by S***K on 22 April 2017* So I decided to do the hard job of redoing my interior trim. Dash panels etc. Called and spoke to Steve and David technical support of SEM (866) 327-7829 and simply asked if it was possible for me to do the job and have a professional outcome. They assured me it would look great and guided me thru the steps. 1. clean with soap and scuff pad, use the proper SEM cleaner, 2 coats of adhesive and 3 light coats of color, The result was like factory new dashboard. This top of the line products and 10+ support, I must have called them 20 times. Call them as much as you need they will do everything possible to help you.
