The compressed thickness, after applying them to my project and pressing down with maybe 50 lbs., was about 1/16 inch. **Q: How does this work? Is there sticky adhesive on both sides?** A: No, there is sticky adhesive on one side. That is the side to attach to the item you don't want to slide. The rest of the of the the block is non-skid. This can be easily cut to whatever size you keed. **Q: can these be glued since they do NOT stay on??** A: I don't know what glue you'd use, but I've had good results with double sided tape. Specifically product code : B07GWRV1ZF which is 6mm x 25M Clear Double Sided Strong Adhesive Tape for Mobile Phone Laptop Camera LCD Screen Repair. They make other sizes, but I have this on hand for other projects. I suppose one could use double sided carpet tape, but I find that a bit messy for whatever reason. **Q: will these work on carpet? When I ran out I was concerned I might not be able to get them anymore. Lo and behold they’re still made!! Perfect solution for protecting surfaces. One bit of advice, be careful on painted surfaces. I put these on the bottom of a decorative metal box and left in on the window sill, after about 2 weeks I picked it up and a bit of the material had stuck to the sill. Easily cleaned off and the window gets hot so it was understandable. Every other surface was perfect.
