The Anatomy of Style: Figure Drawing Methods Paperback – 18 Jan. 2016

I like this book a lot. It is one of the best book in my Figure drawing library. To be a master in figure drawing is not so easy. For this reason this book is very helpful. The author discuss good variety of poses with necessary details. One only thing is missing. Figure drawing is not only drawing the head, the torso and pelvis but also drawing arms, hands, legs and feet. In my opinion, the limbs are treated with not enough attention. Many sketches of the figures are handless and feet-less. The gesture of hands, so important for showing emotions, is not mentioned in the book. This is why I rated this book "The anatomy of style Figure drawing techniques" only with 4 stars.

This is a must have book for both artists and fans of art alike.Starting off by touching briefly on studio set up and materials needed the artist takes you through skeletal anatomy and the overlying muscles. There follows a section on planes of the head (which I found incredibly useful) and in depth guides into faces. The book then covers gestural drawing and poses, before touching on the process of painting in oils. Illustrated throughout with the most magnificent charcoal and pencil sketches the guy is just a magician when it comes to making drawings come alive, feel like they’re moving. The examples of his oil paintings and the way light plays across the anatomy that he draws and paints is just flabbergasting. All in all I feel this book is an essential part of anyone who enjoys arts library.

One of the best anatomy books for artists out there.

An excellent instruction book that compliments his previous work on oil painting. The style is clear and concise as well as giving valuable advice as to the achievement of technique that will enhance my art. Many thanks Mr Jones.
