Best home shredder I have ever had
***2.5 year update*** This thing is still going strong. Couple weeks ago I sat down and shredded a box full of paper. It didn't overheat, shutdown or have any issues for the 30+ minute sessions. All I do is add some shredded oil during and/or after long sessions or if it has sat for some time. Zero regrets buying this shredder! ***Original*** I previously had a Bonsaii brand shreader and I wouldn't take another one of theirs if it was free. It would go into overheat protection within 2 minutes and shutdown for 2-4 hours. It would struggle with more than 3 sheets even though it was a 8 sheet shredder. As for this one. It is much quieter, larger storage capacity and will shred until I'm tired of shredding or run out of things. It doesn't bog down even when I through 12-15 sheets in at once. The shred bin is easy to remove and dump without making a mess. If I had to nitpick one thing I didn't like about it, and is a problem with any shredder, is that the shredded material piles up and will give a full indication before it is. Not sure how that can be fixed without something to vibrate and cause them to settle. I'm good with the 2 seconds it takes to spread it out by hand.

The best shredder
I have a large cross-cut shredder that I've been using for years and serves me well. This summer I started cleaning out boxes and boxes of old documents and decided that rather than burn or pay someone to destroy them, I'd use the paper as brown material for the compost I started. For that I needed a shredder with much greater capacity than the one I was using. I read a seemingly endless number of product specs and reviews and finally decided to go with this Aurora shredder. The pros of this shredder: It's Shhh q-u-i-e-t. It's the least noisy shredder I've ever used. It doesn't interfere with a conversation, or TV or radio. Nice job Aurora! I like the front-to-back shredder opening. It makes for a much narrower machine that sits nicely next to the desk in my home office. It easily takes 15 sheets of regular paper The micro-cut is much smaller than my other shredder and the shredded material takes up a lot less room than my other shredder. It also breaks down faster in my compost bin. Cons: It's heavy and it wasn't fun bringing it up a flight of stairs. It's got good casters so it's easy to move around. I'm very glad I chose this shredder.

Fantatic Shredder...
I've had them all. This is the best shredder of the bunch. Very quite and very powerful. It replaced a Fellows 150C that was quite expensive when I bought it 3 years ago. The Fellows was made cheaply. The auto feed for the 150 pages door broke and the paper bin would not close properly because it was made of cheap plastic. It also had no casters for a heavy (27 lbs) machine. The Aurora is twice the weight (47 lbs) and it shows. It to is made of plastic but it's a heavier quality plastic, and well made. The only fault i can find with the Aurora is that it does not have the Auto Feed for 150 sheets. That's not a problem because it's so fast and the run time is 5 times (60 minutes) longer than the Fellows. If you want an excellent shredder that won't quit and built to last get this model. Highly recommended..

Two-year update: Still an excellent fast shredder with true 15-sheet capacity
Update after two years of intermittent use: Still going strong! Just about every time we shred something we say, "This was one of the best purchases we ever made!" or alternatively, "We're so glad we bought this shredder instead of a cheaper light duty model." We've had a few paper jams (from feeding in 15 sheets crooked) but the reverse mode clears them quickly. There's just nothing bad to say about this dynamo. It shreds and shreds and shreds again! ORIGINAL REVIEW --------------------------------------------------------------------- Bottom line: Extremely pleased. Recommended. Would buy again. Shredded cut shape: Not a perfect rectangle. Rather, it looks a bit like a one-way arrow, like this: _____________ \ \ / / ยฏยฏยฏยฏยฏยฏยฏยฏยฏยฏยฏ Shred size: From left-hand notch to right-hand point -- 5/32 by 15/32 inches as claimed Shred size: From left edge to right edge -- 5/32 by 19/32 Unit size with casters: 24H x 16ยฝD x 13W Size without casters: 22H x 16ยฝD x 13W Noise level: Quiet -- quieter than any other shredder we've used. Bin capacity: 8.5 gallons (very nice) Note: Looking at the unit from the front (controls side), you feed the paper in from the right. For this reason you need clearance above the unit, probably a minimum of 6 inches (depending on how flexible the paper is).

This MOTHER is a Big and Heavy Beast!
I eagerly awaited the arrival of my Aurora AU1580MA Professional Grade High Security 15-Sheet Micro-Cut Paper/CD and Credit Card Shredder! I am giving it four (4) stars only (at this time) because I used it only once. It effectively devoured a ton of paper basically without incident! (It jammed twice but the "reverse" mechanism on this wonderful machine was able to fix it. The jam was my fault as I did not properly center my credit cards as instructed in the manual. I would advise all to review the manual as it is a quick read. This thing is so big and heavy that the superintendent at my place of residence had to help me carry it to my apartment (glad he was around - - LOL!) Anyway, the heaviness of this thing is excellent as it vouches for the high quality of this shredder - - and Baby . . . this thing is very quiet . . . Yes, Quiet. In addition (and more importantly), This Aurora shredder pulverizes paper to a soft mush - - and it turned my old credit cards into mulch. I will be using this Aurora again (and again) as I have more paper to shred and will give an update after using it multiple times. I am impressed with the overall performance of this shredder (in its Initial run) - - and the price point of this machine is very good as well. This machine is excellent for the home or home office. I hope to give it Five stars in the future. If the quality of the machine holds up (over time) I would love to appear in a commercial to advertise it. . . . and I would NOT want to be compensated for my endorsement. . . . But we will see what the future holds for this product. Before I conclude, I just want to mention that though this item appeared brand new it looked as if it had prior use as there was a piece of paper left in the bin. However, I am chalking it up to the company's quality control efforts. There were NO signs of abuse; or scratches or anything else on this machine. Respectfully, Brooklyn Slim

THE BEST SHREDDER!!
We have loved this shredder right out of the box! Yes, it is heavy but this is a GREAT shredder! It is quieter than most and has a HUGE catch basket! We have shredded THREE lawn garbage bags full in just a few hours (if that) when this amount of paper would have taken DAYS of time-consuming work to shred! I literally can't say enough great things about this machine! I'll tell any and all I can about this great machine! Purchase this machine, you won't be sorry!

Great micro-shredder
After my last shredder died, this one has been a pleasure, although I have had it for only a couple of days. Just shredded 500 sheets in 5 minutes - fast and very quiet. Also, it automatically turns off after 5 minutes of non-use - Nice. It comes with rollers and is easily movable. It is a bit bigger and heavier (42 lbs v. 22 lbs.) than the cheaper shredders. No complaints.

This sucker is a beast!!!
I've had a pretty good Fellowes shredder with similar specs to this one for more than 15 years. Same 13 page capacity, but slightly smaller bin. My old shredder still works but it makes all kinds of noises and can no longer reliably shred even 10 pages without sounding like it's going to fall apart. So I took my chances on this Aurora 1580 because I needed to shred about 20 very thick binders worth of old bank and brokerage statements that I knew the old shredder couldn't handle. I put a standard 13 gallon tall trash bag in the bin and began shredding. Yep, I got tired of shredding before the machine ever quit on me. I experimented with it's limits and it didn't jam until it got 20 pages of sheets that included a mixture of 20 lb and 24 lb paper (including staples). So it definitely exceeds its stated capacity. Just for grins I tried putting in a bunch of papers with a single standard sized paperclip and it went through like it wasn't even there. I won't make it a habit to put paper clips in it, but I had to see if the advertised features were correct. I also ran through about 30 CDs with ease. The only thing I didn't like about shredding the CDs is that the machine spews a tiny amount of the shiny reflective paint/film out of the feed slot which requires vacuuming up. It's only a little bit, but annoying nonetheless. Like any other shredder, you're still going to have some bits of shredded paper falling out when you pull out the drawer to empty the bin. The top of the 13 gallon trash bags fit into slots cut into the top of the bin to hold the bag up. Suggest you put the bag in "sideways" to what you might think is the initial/logical way of fitting it into the bin. This will allow the bottom of the bag to expand to the front of the bin as it fills. (You have to see it to understand what I'm talking about). You can probably fit a little bit more shredded material if you get slightly bigger bags, but maybe only another half a gallon. So it's a heavy duty shredder that can handle thousands of pages with ease and easily shreds CDs and credit cards as well. It's heavy, but that's why you're buying it: to handle just about anything you want shredded. A definite buy!
