Jeanne, Hello and thanks for your question. You measure by standing on the device with your heel at the back, and reading the measurement at the end of the longest toe. There are sliders that you place at the ball of the foot and for measuring the width too. Then you turn it around for the other foot. There are detailed instructions included.
