Later...with Jools Holland...Cool Britannia
First off, yes...this dvd is region 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. So if you live in America and don't have a region free dvd player...this won't work for you mate. It is also labled as "Playstation 2 Compatible" on the dvd but I have not bothered to see if it plays in it. If you want to buy a DVD player region free and cheap like I have, Philips has a nice one I paid about $72 for total with S/H that is sold by VCT ELECTRONICS and you can order dvd's from anywhere and be happy. You just have to set it to region 0 which another person explains in his review of it. It has this lable...PHILIPS DVP3140 - ALL REGION CODEFREE MULTI SYSTEM DVD PLAYER WITH DivX. Below isan example...Suded - So Young04/06/1993 Series 2, Programme 4with Soul Asylum, Fishbone, Bryan Ferry, Ed Alleyne-JohnsonIt's hard to remember how barren young british rock was in the early 90's 'til Suede came along and ignited a generation. They were camp, deadly serious and they had a vison of Britian based on Bowie and the desperate yearnings of suburban kids going nowhere slowly. I'd produced a live session with them on The Late Show which turned into disaster; the sound mix got scrambled just before they went on air, Bernard's guitar drowned out everything and though he wound up the song clapping nervously, they clearly didn't enjoy the experience much. Here they were alongside Soul Asylum, a band breaking big on radio in the wake of grunge, and they were ready to be unashamedly foppish in the face of all that America angst. This is one of their early anthems and captures Brett and Bernard when they were still friends. Suede became regulars on the show as did Bernard, first with McAlmont and then solo but this is them back in the early days, taking on the world.DVD also includes bonus features which are: *Interviews with Doves and Travis *Program your favourite 6 tracks to play in order With the DVD and Booklet here in "Later...with Jools Holland presents Cool Britannia", this is a nice piece of British music in the 90's for not alot of money.

An absolute Hoot
This is a compilatiojn of the best bits of Jools New Year shows on the BBC. Its fabulous, there are 34 tracks, amounting to just over 2 hours of great music. OK not all of them are going to be to everyones taste, but most are so good you can't really complain.I love Paul Weller doing the late Billy Prestons "Will It Go Round In Circles" in 1997. I didn't know it was a Billy Preston song until long after I first saw this Paul Weller Performance. Immediately following this is Sharleen Spiteri belting out a fantastic version of "Surrender" in 1999. Again I've never heard this song before, and I don't know anything by Texas but this is great. She puts everything into this performance and you can't ask more of an artist than that.My absolute favourite is Gary Brooker doing A Whiter Shade of Pale. I remember watching this in 2001 and thinking will it be even remotely like the classic record from 1967? Well this brought tears to my eyes. Gary Brookers voice is still as good, if not better than it was in 1967, bluesy, and in fact very close to being like Ray Charles. I never tire of watching this track.Of course not everything is perfect, John Cale (who I'm a big fan of) seems out of place singing an old Sinatra number, and there are a few others I could mention, but this is mostly down to personal taste more than anything.Of course a lot of credit must go to Jools and the Rhythm and Blues Orchestra for providing wonderful backing to this assortment of great talent.Have a glass of wine, play loud and enjoy.

Great compilation, but.... it's PAL format and I couldn't watch it at home, just on PC changing the region set. I should've noticed that. Anyway

First class entertainment!
BBC Two's 'Later with Jools Holland' is one of my favourite television music shows, hosted by a talented man who truly cares about good music, and long may it continue. However, even though DVD compilations are no longer released, which is a shame, it makes me all the more grateful for what was made publicly available previously. As an avid fan of Britpop and all of the bands, I love watching this 'Cool Britannia' edition, which features performances (recorded from 1993 to 2003) from the likes of Oasis, Blur, Ash, Supergrass, and later bands such as The Libertines and The Darkness. The artists are neatly presented, not chronically, but alphabetically. As a bonus, you are allowed to program you're six favourite tracks, so you're allowed to choose which songs you want to hear, in the order you'd like to see them - cool or what!Track listing1 - Ash - Shining Light2 - Blur - Tender3 - British Sea Power - Remember Me4 - Catatonia - Bleed5 - Coldplay - In My Place6 - Cornershop - Brimful Of Asha7 - Doves - The Cedar Room8 - Echo And The Bunnymen - Nothing Lasts Forever9 - Elastica - Connection10 - Elbow Fugitive Motel11 - Embrace - All You Good Good People12 - Feeder - Just The Way I'm Feeling13 - Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out14 - Keane - This Is The Last Time15 - Manic Street Preachers - A Design For Life16 - Morrissey - Boy Racer17 - Oasis - I Am The Walrus18 - Paul Weller - Sunflower19 - Primal Scream - Movin' On Up20 - Pulp - Disco 200021 - Radiohead - The Bends22 - Spiritualized - Come Together23 - Starsailor - Good Souls24 - Stereophonics - More Life In A Tramps West25 - Suede - So Young26 - Super - Furry Animals Something For The Weekend27 - Supergrass - Caught By The Fuzz28 - 22-20s - Devil In Me29 - Beta Band - The Human Being30 - The Charlatans - Just When You're Thinkin' Things Over31 - The Darkness - I Believe In A Thing Called Love32 - The Libertines - Up The Bracket33 - The Verve - Drugs Don't Work34 - Travis - All I Wanna Do Is RockBonus features include interviews with Doves and Travis, taking about their first ever appearances on 'Later'.

Best of Britain
