Mini Theremin Musical Electronic Creative Instrument with Screen Display Gift

I'm using this mini theremin as a ghost detector. With a larger antenna, when anything comes within about two feet of it the tone changes. The "organ" timbre pre-set makes a sufficiently creepy sound for this purpose. The power port is a bit finicky. I have to wiggle the plug to get it connected. I hope it doesn't fail.

As mentioned in the title, the tiny size is pretty impressive. And it works the way a theremin is supposed to work. However, despite having 40+ sounds, they all pretty much sound the same. The biggest drawback is that this unit is pretty useless as a musical instrument. Frequency control over the notes is way to erratic - you get a 1 octave range within 2-3 cm of the antenna, and then a 2 octave jump in the last cm. A range / sensitivity adjust exists - but all it does is lower the bottom note of the range and you still get that same awful jump in tone near the antenna. I wasn't expecting a miracle from this little gadget, but I think a smooth range of musical notes is the bare minimum requirement.

I was very excited to get this instrument. I am physically disabled so I cannot play any traditional instruments like the flute, piano or guitar. This sounded cool. You’re supposed to just wave your hand close to the antenna and it makes sounds like the introduction for the Doctor Who TV show. However I followed all the instructions, I set it to English, and I extended and put all of the antennas in the correct positions. I plugged it in and it started making a low pitch whining noise. So I’m like cool it’s working. I slowly brought my hand towards the antenna nothing. I waved it up and down, nothing. I then actually touched the antenna. And then it screeched extremely loud. so it’s like there’s no in between. It’s either a low humming noise, or a high-pitched squeal. I cannot play a song. I’ve tried going very slow, I’ve tried going fast, I’ve tried my right hand and my left hand. I’ve tried up and down. Yet nothing. It only makes the tone change when I physically wrap my fingers around the antenna. That’s not how this is supposed to work. All in all, extremely disappointed. I’m not sure if it’s because I bought this off of Amazon but I wish I could get a refund. I just have a weird box sitting on my coffee table now.
