A Budget-Friendly Option with Mixed Results
I’ve been trying out the TevraPet FirstAct Plus Flea and Tick Prevention for Cats (Over 1.5lbs, 6 Monthly Doses) on my two cats, and it’s been a bit of a mixed bag. If you’re looking for an affordable alternative to big-name flea treatments, this one’s worth considering, but it comes with some caveats. The Good Stuff: This topical treatment uses fipronil (9.8%) and (S)-methoprene (11.8%), the same active ingredients as Frontline Plus, which is a major plus for budget-conscious pet owners. The 6-dose pack, priced around $25-$35, offers a full six months of protection, making it way cheaper than name brands. Applying it is straightforward—part the fur at the base of your cat’s neck, squeeze the applicator onto the skin, and you’re done. It’s waterproof, so baths or rain won’t wash it off, and it’s designed to kill fleas, flea eggs, larvae, ticks (including Lyme disease carriers), and chewing lice for up to 30 days per dose. My indoor cat hasn’t shown any fleas since I started using it, and several Amazon reviews echo this, with one user saying it “worked as well as Frontline for a fraction of the cost” and kept their outdoor cat flea-free. It’s made in Germany in an EU-GMP certified facility, which adds some reassurance about quality control. The fact that it’s safe for cats over 1.5 lbs and 8 weeks old makes it versatile for most feline households. What’s Not So Great: Here’s where things get tricky. While some users, including myself, have had success, others report it’s hit-or-miss. A few Amazon reviews were brutal, with one user claiming their cats had “the worst flea infestation ever” after using it, even when paired with oral treatments like Capstar. Another mentioned skin irritation on their cats’ necks, which I haven’t seen with mine but is concerning, especially for cats with sensitive skin or flea allergies. The applicator’s sharp edges are another issue—one reviewer warned it could scrape a cat’s skin if you’re not careful, which is a design flaw compared to smoother applicators like Frontline’s. Also, if your cat has a heavy flea problem or you’re in a high-infestation area, you might need to apply it every 30 days (or even more frequently for flea allergy dermatitis), and results can vary. I’ve noticed my outdoor cat still scratches occasionally, so I’m supplementing with regular grooming. Lastly, it’s not for dogs, so if you have a mixed pet household, you’ll need a separate product.Final Thoughts: The TevraPet FirstAct Plus is a solid budget option for flea and tick prevention, especially if your cat’s infestation isn’t severe or you’re using it preventatively. The price and vet-quality ingredients make it appealing, and it’s worked well for my indoor cat. However, the mixed reviews on effectiveness and potential for skin irritation mean it’s not a guaranteed win for every cat. I’d rate it a 3.5/5—great value and easy to use, but the inconsistent results and applicator design hold it back. If you’re trying it, start with the 3-dose pack to test it out, keep an eye on your cat for irritation, and pair it with good grooming and home treatment for best results. It’s a decent alternative to Frontline, but don’t expect miracles in heavy flea zones.

Perfectly fine product
Initially I was very skeptical after buying this flea treatment because of the several cases of cats missing fur and developing scabs... I was really nervous after putting this on my indoor/outdoor cat. The first image is about 6 hours after one application. Second photo is about 12 hours. Almost completely dry and no signs or symptoms of irritation or allergic reaction. Don't mind the redness on my kitty's ears she has been treated for that previously it is unrelated to the flea treatment. Also, I was only using this medication for prevention. She goes outside an hour a day, but my vet recommended preventative measures. Anyway, I would recommend this product because I have a good experience. I would say if your cat is particularly sensitive or has had skin issues or worries in the past to look for something more effective and not so cheap. All in all I think I will use it again for next month.

Equivalent to Frontline Plus at half the price
I've been giving my two indoor cats Frontline Plus for several years. They hate it, but they haven't been getting fleas. They hate getting these FirstAct Plus flea drops just as much, but the active ingredients are the same, so they should be just as effective. Although the packaging is much less excessive, which I like, I do have one minor gripe, in that I need scissors to open the little blister vials, and by the time I do that, the cats are well hidden and I'm stuck with an open dose and nowhere to go. By comparison, I can flick the Frontline Plus blister vials open with my thumb, which makes the ambush tactics needed to administer them much easier. But for an equivalent product at about half the price per dose, I can live with that inconvenience.

Useless, no effect on fleas!!!
Useless product! My cat typically gets monthly Frontline Plus which has worked great at controlling fleas, I thought I'd save a few bucks and try a generic with the same ingredients. This product claims to have same active ingredients, in the same quantity, yet it does NOTHING!!! I even treated my cat with oral Capstar first, which killed all the fleas he had, and applied this product to prevent re-infestation at sametime, within 3 days he was covered in the worst fleas he's ever had and so is my house! I tried a second dose about 2 weeks after initial to see if there was any change and again nothing and again I was giving Capstar almost daily so he wasn't infested at this point, as soon as I stopped Capstar, relying on this stuff for protection, the fleas returned full force. I've now spent hundreds bug bombing my entire house and spraying my yard and treating my cat including taking him to the vet and having him professionally groomed for flea removal and paying for my roommate's cats to be treated as well because my cat brought the fleas in and contaminated everyone and everything!!! There's no way this is the same as Frontline Plus and I don't believe the ingredients are the same! I'm livid and of course can't return this junk, I'd never buy this again and it's unlikely I'll try any of this company's other products! No wonder there's no returns for this item, I'm sure the company would be inundated with unhappy customers if there was. I'm so frustrated and disappointed with this ordeal and believe that the company is misrepresenting the ingredients claiming they are the same as brand name Frontline Plus, there's no logical reason for this product, that is supposed to contain the exact same chemicals in the same quantities as the brand name product, to not have a comparable effect, yet here I am covered in flea bites, my house and yard now covered in chemicals from the bombing, a $280 vet bill for my cat and my roommates 2 cats to get a new prescription flea treatment and get de-wormed for tapeworms as well, my son can't play in his yard because he was getting bit and now after spraying it I'm scared he'll get sick from the residual chemicals. Arrrgh! I'm about ready to sue this company for the money I've lost, the stress and physical discomfort the humans, cats, and even dog are dealing with because of this crappy product, I'm definitely filing a complaint with Amazon, BBB, and any other relevant consumer protection companies. Arrghh!!!! So much for saving a few bucks, instead it's costing me hundreds of $ and my sanity!
