The 2017 Baby Names Almanac

This has a few text boxes with commentary for 2017 but there is no data updated from 2015. Furthermore the name meanings are flat wrong in many cases. So it is useless for 2017 updates and useless to reference for meanings. Try another baby name book... most any would be better. :-/

Pros:It gives you kind of a history of a few names, old names that are coming back into style, doesn't give you "baby name overload" because it's all pretty narrowed down, etcCons:Not enough namesWe are currently expecting our 2nd baby and are not finding out the sex so we need to find names for both a boy and a girl just in case. I bought this name almanac because it's crunch time and although it's nice to not have to read a million and one names in each alphabet category, I felt there wasn't enough.

I was very disappointed with this book. First of all, despite its title it was last updated in early 2015, so it didn't even have any 2015 name charts. The list of boy names in the book is ridiculous. There also include about 40 to 50 German names. I am German and can assure that no more then 10 of these suggested names are actually first names. Of those ten, 50% have not been used since medievel times. A lot of names I would have expected were not in there. So if you are looking for an extremely rare name, this is your book. Otherwise, save your time and money.

We ended up buying a different baby name book. I thought this would have more of a variety of names in it, but it’s just the very obvious and even then, not even the ‘obvious’ names are in it. It just didn’t really help us.

This book is chock full of incredible diverse baby names, which may be what some people are looking for. I, however, am not looking for Arabic, Greek, Korean, Indian, Turkish, Hindi, Greek, etc. names for my baby-to-be. Many of the names in this book I can't even pronounce, and are not exactly what I'm looking for when choosing a name. Googling baby names on the internet is more helpful than this book.

Well, it's a baby name book and it has a lot of names. Not much more than what you can find via google but it helped my wife and I to have the names right in front of us. Take it with us and just throw out names see what we liked didn't like.This book was much better than some of the other ones we got. Had a lot of practical names not just every word that could be used as a name. Although if you're going to name your child 'moon dance silly shorts' I'm not quite sure you're buying a regular old baby name book.

My husband and I are expecting a boy in September and he wants to be a part of the naming process but was running desperately short on contributions. So, I purchased this book for him and, while I am all for diversity, I have to admit I am really disappointed! Most of the boys names are very... foreign. I skimmed through the girls names and that portion of the book looks a fair bit more promising. Unless you want to name your baby boy after a planet (yes, Neptune and Uranus are actually suggested) or a character from Slumdog Millionaire or Twilight, I would not recommend this book.

This is a great read! Names can be almost impossible to come up with but this book helped us out a lot. It breaks down each name along with it's meaning and was a helpful tool in naming our first child.

bought it for a family member they like it. whole heap of names in there and im sure they will find a suitbale one.
