Designed to maximize filtration surface area while maintaining optimal water flow, it reduces clogging and fits any aquarium or sump filter system. Perfect for pre-filtering, sump dividing, or DIY HMF projects, it supports a balanced filtration approach when combined with sponges of varying pore sizes. ## Description The open cell sponge has a much larger inner surface area for filtration capacity. The reticulated structure also provides better flow rate of water and less chance of clog. The size of pores is measure in pores per inch (PPI). The sponge with higher PPI has more pores in it. More pores means larger filtration capacity but with less water flow through rate and needs to be cleaned more often. It is recommended to use combination of sponge with difference PPI to get the best result. This filter pad can be cut to fit and used as a pre-filter for any aquarium or pond filter, sump, wet/dry, canister, power filter etc. This filter pad can be used as tank/sump divider, or a prefilter for your HMF DIY project. ## Features - Dimension: 11" Lx 10.25"W x 2"H, PPI: 20 blue coarse - The open cell sponge has a much larger inner surface area for filtration capacity. - This filter pad can be cut to fit and used as a pre-filter for any aquarium or pond filter, sump, wet/dry, canister, power filter etc. or your HMF DIY project. - The reticulated structure also provides better flow rate of water and less chance of clog. - The size of pores is measure in pores per inch (PPI). Would prefer not to have to buy all three.** A: No it's not necessary but can be preferred. I've found running just the fine requires it to be replaced much more frequently while just the coarse allows fine particles to clog other media used or allows them to pass back into tank. If I was gonna run just one I would use medium and clean once a month or so depending on tank stocking. I personally use all 3 in a sump and only rinse the fine every 2 months the coarse and medium get cleaned every 6 months **Q: Are both of these black and green ones rated at 30 ppi small enough gauge for shrimp tanks so shrimp won't get sucked into the pores of the sponge?** A: Hello, the green one is of 30 PPI while the black one is of 45 PPI, thank you. **Q: What is the lifespan of this sponge? How many years? Thank you!** A: Lasts Forever just squeeze in a bucket of aquarium water until all the solid waste is removed and put back into filter do not rinse in tap water if it's too clogged then you are over feeding and might need a larger filter. **Q: Love this product! Can I order special diminsions cut?** A: I love this filter too, and with that being said, I can't say, I cut my own and as long as that fiber lasts, I just rinse it off and reuse it. I hope you find your answer. ## Frequently Bought Together - AQUANEAT Aquarium Filter Sponge Open Cell Foam Sheet Bio Sponge Filter Media Pad HMF Fish Tank Sump Divider (11" Lx 10.25" W x 2" H, Blue) - Aquatic Experts Aquarium Filter Floss for Fish Tank Filters - FilterFirst Aquarium Filter Pad - Media Roll for Crystal Clear Water, 3/4" - 1" Thick (12 Inch Wide, 72 Inch Long) - Hipanda Filter Foam Sponges, Bio Sponge Filter Media Pad, Cut-to-Size Foam for Aquarium Fish Tank (9" x 9" x 1",2pcs) --- ## Why Shop on Desertcart? - πŸ›’ **Trusted by 1.3+ Million Shoppers** β€” Serving international shoppers since 2016 - 🌍 **Shop Globally** β€” Access 737+ million products across 21 categories - πŸ’° **No Hidden Fees** β€” All customs, duties, and taxes included in the price - πŸ”„ **15-Day Free Returns** β€” Hassle-free returns (30 days for PRO members) - πŸ”’ **Secure Payments** β€” Trusted payment options with buyer protection - ⭐ **TrustPilot Rated 4.5/5** β€” Based on 8,000+ happy customer reviews **Shop now:** [https://www.desertcart.ph/products/58292681-aquaneat-aquarium-filter-sponge-open-cell-foam-sheet-bio-sponge](https://www.desertcart.ph/products/58292681-aquaneat-aquarium-filter-sponge-open-cell-foam-sheet-bio-sponge) --- *Product available on Desertcart Philippines* *Store origin: PH* *Last updated: 2026-10-21*
