Hayward EC2024 Jet Action Cleaning Wand Replacement for Hayward Perflex DE filters

We have a StaRite filter with two cartridges inside. The pleats in the cartridges get gunky and in the past we've normally just used the "jet" setting on the hose nozzle to clean them. This filter cleaning wand looked intriguing and it was inexpensive, so I ordered one. It works pretty well. It gets more gunk out than just the "jet" setting (it actually comes with a separate endpiece that will do a "jet" setting if you like - - we haven't used it much, though) and I like the fact that the bristles help get between the pleats. There are a bunch of little holes in the surface that the bristles come out of, so as you're brushing the water shoots out and cleans off what the bristles dislodged. You can tell how well the bristles work by using the brush part without running the water through it. The brush gets really gunky. Unfortunately, the head is a little too big to get to some parts of the big cartridge if you leave it in the filter housing. Of course, the head and brush would have to be teeny weeny to get to those tight spots. I'll keep using this tool happily.

We also have the Sta Rite 2 pool filter cartridges that really are a pain to clean. I have used a power washer with a 25 degree wand and was very successful in getting the filters clean. I thought this would be easier and faster because of the bristles. I did not have the same success as the other users. I thought I was going to blow a heart valve scrubbing the pool filters. I got the outside of one done when I went back to my old faithful method.For smaller, more delicate filters, this would probably work well. The Sta Rite has a 292 and 152 Sq foot cartridges. I have done the power washer method every 3 to 6 months for 6 years on the original filters. They come out clean and keep the pool clear.I was not impressed with this. The handle is thin PVC tubing with a hose adapter and shut off valve on one end and the screw on bristle adapter on the other end. It does not appear to be very durable and it appears that it would break if someone were to accidentally drop anything on it. It may be more durable than I am giving it credit for, but it looks and feels flimsy.The bottom line: It does the job. Not great - not without some "elbow grease" but it does what is advertised.

The Hayward EC2024 Jet Action Cleaning Wand Replacement for Hayward Perflex DE filters removes caked on DE that you'll never get out otherwise without removing all 20 bolts from the unit, cleaning it by hand, and putting 20 bolts back on. Why it costs almost $50, I have no idea.

I was skeptical when purchasing this item based on other 'negative' reviews. With the exception of the cheap plastic as I dont know how long it will last, I have been VERY happy with this product. For the price, maybe the cheap palstic is 'ok' as I can replace it. But for the performance of it, I have been quite happy. I have cleaned filters for either hot tub or pool cartridges for 25 years and this, along with soaking in filter cleaner has resulted in the cleanest filters I have ever achieved. I would buy this item again.

it certainly does help get into the pleats of the filter. it seems like you can brush these filters forever and they still have dirt, but at least with the want it really gets in there. I hope it holds up as its alot of cheap plastic, but if you treat it relatively gently, it should be ok.

This made cleaning our pool filter a breeze. Slim and so easy to use. Love it!

Bought this in June of 2011, works very good. This year 3/3/2012 the female end where you screw in the hose broke clear off. I'm a fix-it guy but this can't be fixed because the extreme pressure would just brake it again. Disapointed but will buy another.
