Prakriti: Your Ayurvedic Constitution (Your Ayurvedic Constitution Revised Enlarged Second Edition)

So good I went back for more.
As a yoga practitioner since 1995 and a yoga teacher since 2000 I've read a lot of books on everything about yoga. I also run a yoga book club at the studio where I teach. My students are always curious about eating more yogicly and taking their yoga to the next level. I had a few requests on yoga and diet so I started researching the best books that would be readable for all levels. This is how I stumbled upon Prakriti: Your Ayurvedic Constitution.I read most of it over one weekend. It was so interesting and the knowledge that Mr Svoboda imparts really sinks in, better than other books that seem to hold Ayurveda at arms length. I've known what my dosha was for years but never really connected the dots. I immediately started thinking about how I eat, what tastes I like best and when. When I got to the last page I went right back to the beginning and reread it to go over what I didn't get on the first pass. Three months later it's still on my night stand. I learn something new every time I pick it up. I consider it a little jewel, jammed packed with good info. It took my understanding to the next level. I've read two other books on Ayurveda since then but this is the one that made it all make sense for me.You don't have to practice yoga to enjoy this book. Ayurveda is the medicinal branch of the yoga. It helps. Ayurveda like yoga is done in levels - practice, observe and adjust appropriately. It can change your life.

Highly recommended.
Amazing! Ayurvedic concepts are so cool. You can learn the concepts and then use them as they apply to your bioregion. You don't necessarily need to use ayurvedic herbs mainly. Learning about the doshas is crucial. The only problem with this book is that it shows people how to pacify their dosha and not necessarily stop antagonistic behaviors. I can't fault the author, but people can use any kind of natural healing therapies to avoid the elephant in the room. There is a distortion that just because you use elements from Yoga, TCM or Ayurveda, you are somehow more spiritually developed, but this couldn't be further from the truth. If you see disease like a debt collector from the Divine Mother, you would acknowledge that you have to change in you life your tendencies to build debt or misuse the energy being given to you. Diseases are messengers of that. If one's behaviors don't change significantly, the illness will probably return in a more intense way. Also, debt/karma is created by using natural elements to allow yourself to screw around :-/But seriously, great book overall, highly recommended if used in context of greater life reality

An Easygoing, Fascinating Read - Discover and Embrace your Ayurvedic Constitution
I am just getting "into" ayurvedic and this book was recommended to me. I find it so comfortable to read, just an easygoing flow and I don't get a sensation of DO this, DON'T do that. Well, there are a couple instances of that, but that is because it is related to the principles of ayurvedic doshas - specifics related to advice on how to best get along with your constitutional makeup). This author intrigues me because he is so familiar and kind sounding. I see that he has written many other books, which in reading this one I am excited to order and read. I am a beginner AND this book was recommended to me by an expert, so I think this is a good overall book on the subject of Doshas/Prakriti.I am finding this book to be the perfect complement to my 2 favorite other books I currently have on ayurvedic, "The Complete Book of Ayurvedic Home Remedies" (Vasant Lad), and "Heaven's Banquet" (Miriam Kasin Hospodar), both of which I cannot recommend highly enough. For kind and easygoing diagnosis/treatment recommendations, the first. For recipes and yet again kind and easygoing style, the latter.I am so excited to have this book and so glad I ordered it. Enjoy it in good health, all! Namaste!

A very wonderful book indeed
A very wonderful book indeed! I am reading it while I am admitted in an Ayurvedic hospital for curing myself of slip disc ailment. The treatment offered in the hospital is exactly as per descriptions in the book. The book has really helped to understand the mindset of my healers. It has also helped me to take charge of my own health choices when my healers are not around. The book is specially commendable for its simplicity in presenting Ayurveda! Dr Svoboda also provides lots of anecdotes from his life which deepens ones understanding of the subject. My perception of health and healing has changed upside down after reading this book. To me Ayurvedic medicinal science seems quite ahead of modern contemporary medicine. It offers such detail understanding of health which modern science does not have any clue and probably may not have a clue in years to come.

Interesting book
I had heard about Ayurvedia and this book from my local yoga place. I decided to read it and see if it could help my current health issues. It makes interesting connections between mind, body and soul as well as between food and body. I look forward to putting at least some of the items in play. It includes some simple recipes for cleansing or balancing the body.

Not much
I may have had unreasonable expectations, but after spending 30 minutes with this book, I decided that more time would be a waste. It mostly summarizes things I had read on the web and elsewhere. I was hoping that the "your" in the title would help me apply it to me -- if that is part of the book, I missed it. But, it is cheap and you do not lose a lot if you buy it and do not like it any better than I did. Note that my typical published review is 4 or 5 stars
