Great question. Ethyl Chloride is a different chemical that is Not in Instant Ice. While Ethyl Chloride will make the skin a little colder, it is Highly Flammable. Instant Ice is Non-flammable.

Q: Will a doctor use this before they inject lidocaine?

Some may but it depends on the doctor. I work in pediatric health care, and what we recommend prior to injections instead, is to apply a lidocaine cream where the injection site will be. You apply a dollop and then cover with a tegaderm or occlusive dressing. You can buy it over the counter. Aspercreme is one brand.
