For the first time ever on DVD, Close My Eyes is a film by prolific director Stephen Poliakoff, featuring the exceptional talents of Alan Rickman ( Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban ) and Clive Owen ( Gosford Park, King Arthur ). Children of a broken marriage, grown up apart and hardly knowing each other - Richard (Clive Owen) is a slick, successful and promiscuous young architect whilst Natalie (Saskia Reeves) is lost, low on self esteem and lonely. After a long absence their reunion ends with a kiss. But not the sort for brothers and sisters. As time moves on the roles are reversed as Natalie marries Sinclair (Alan Rickman), an incredibly wealthy and eccentric man who languishes in the home countries. Whilst Richard on the other hand ditches the life of the London high flier and focuses on finding meaning to his life. Over an incredibly hot summer they come together and find themselves falling into an illicit affair, trying hard not to hurt everyone around them but at the same time failing to stay apart... Review: Close My Eyes - Close My Eyes is a 1991 film about Natalie (Saskia Reeves) who slowly starts to fall in love with Richard Gillespie (Clive Owen) who is in-fact her Younger Brother. Natalie has recently bought a fairly noisy apartment with her lover only to have him leave her within just a few weeks, she also hates her job & is very unhappy, it's at this moment she first kisses her brother Richard. Over the space of the movie we watch how both the brother and sister deal with the feelings for each other, and see what goes on when Natalie's husband starts to think she is having an affair. All in all it's a really great film and i really did enjoy it, will be watching again I'm sure. Review: Saskia Reeves is electrifying. - Interesting plot about brother and sister that haven't seen each other in years and meet as adults. She is happily married, supposedly, and he is a bit of a bad boy. Saskia Reeves plays an incredibly attractive and sexy woman who is drawn to her brother as a moth to a flame. The brother doesn't care about the consequences, he just takes what is on offer. Alan Rickman plays the husband, a decent enough fellow who eventually realises what is going on. Interesting film, great performances, very sexy lady.

Nostalgic trip
I probably shouldn't buy a film simply because I'm drawn to the memories of the London it captures from my youth - but that's what's motivating me. I saw the film back in the early 90s when I was working in Docklands (I previously mis-dated my review because I started my job there in the late 80s and I associated it with that). The film was very much of its time in the sense of the development of Docklands and also the very beautiful scenes filmed along the Thames in weather that was pretty miraculous for them to have managed given the average rainy English summer. The film is visually a pleasure but the subject matter is a bit uncomfortable and the tensions between brother and sister a bit implausible - you can only get away with such illustrations of passion if there is a real pull between the actors playing the roles which there clearly isn't here. Alan Rickman seems oddly out of place but he lifts the film and yes, it's a film worth watching and relaxing with. As a post-script - this is the first film I remember seeing him in. Such a great loss to film and theatre - bless him.

Of it's time and still enthralling
I have to confess that there is not much of Stephen Poliakoff's work that I wouldn't rave about- I love the way he weaves layers of acutely observed human life into wonderful stories. I have seen this TV play before and found it both beautiful and disturbing- it deals with a significant taboo of Western society and does so sensitively. The cinematography is definitely of it's time and for me that did not detract one jot from the viewing experience. I think the performances are strong, in this thought provoking and moving study on the complexities of modern relationships.

A traditional love triangle
Written and directed by Stephen Poliakoff. A traditional triangle one woman and two men. I bought it for the rather beautiful Alan Rickman - and he is very beautiful in this film and also the rather hunky Clive Owen. We see some lovely naked shots of him. Saskia Reeves is the woman who can't handle two men - I've see this in real life. A rather grubby story really interestingly shot. within the framework of a succession of very wide shots of beautiful interiors and exteriors. The sun is always shining and everyone else in the story accepts their lovely outdoor summer life style which also adds contrast to the angst the central characters are going through. Very cleverly done.

I recommend it, its far better than any American attempt
This is a splendid and very well acted film. Although it is highly erotic it really is far more than that and the plot and outcome are uncertain until the end. I recommend it, its far better than any American attempt!

bin zufrieden
Die Sendung war schnell und Dvd war gut verpackt. Der Film ist einfach ein Sprung in die Vergangheit , in 80s,vorallem wie alles aussieht , just Vaporwave. Und Alan Rickman ist einfach göttlich.

Arrived early and was mint!
It arrived quickly and in good condition. Considering how hard it is to get in Canada, I’m very pleased with it’s state!

Better than porn, it's got a plot (not too complicated) AND it has Saskia Reeves!
I love it because I love Saskia Reeves with the added bonus that she is a lot younger than what I've seen of her recently (In "Page 8" for example). I enjoy her incestuous behavior with her brother and her husband's demeanor through all this. The rape scene of her in a lovely red gown taking place on the surface of a country road in the path of an onrushing truck is especially exciting. Her supporting cast members are two of the great contemporary male actors and the plot is simple; sex-crazed brother and sister try to extend their love affair beyond her marriage but are have difficulty in doing so. If you like illicit sex, you will enjoy this film, I did; but in a honest effort to understand women more.
