Lovely pieces, CD is a bonus, item arrived promptly!
I used this book when I was taking violin lessons several years ago and I loved the songs that were in it, so I decided to buy one for myself. The arrangements are very nice, and the CD is a great help to aid you, but I also play along with it sometimes to play rounds or improvise. I love Celtic music and borrowed this book from my teacher several times, so I was very excited to find it! The item arrived earlier than the ETA, and was packaged very well.

Pure joy!
As a mainly self-taught violin beginner struggling to learn celtic-style music, I am extremely happy with this collection. I started out with "Playalong Violin Folk Songs" (published by Bosworth) a lovely collection of traditional English, Irish, Scottish and Welsh melodies arranged for easy violin. This book and CD provided me with a good transition to more advanced music within a similar genre. Other celtic play-along collections contain mostly fast-paced dance tunes which are beyond my abilities. This one features many slow, stirringly beautiful melodies which are accessible to an adult beginner. As skills advance, there are some challenging variations and several faster paced tunes to try. And with the chord notations, I have been able to enlist my 12-year old son as a guitar accompanist on the easiest pieces!

Well written arrangements of useful tunes that work well even for solo violin!
I haven't even listened to the CD but I've played through the book a couple of times. Nice collection of tunes, especially if one is able to be creative and add ornaments and rhythmic variations. I'll definitely recommend this to some of my violin students and look forward to using many of these tunes in my own performance.

Five Stars
Great music and the CD provides a good example as to how a piece SHOULD sound!

Not what I thought
I thought the CD was arranged to accompany the melody. It's not--it's only the melody playing alone. Not what I thought I was buying.

Its ok
The songs are ok... the part of the guitar is not well writen, so the guitarist have to listen the audio to play it like in the audio. And the songs are really easy!!!! for a begginer is fine...but if you want something more difficult...this is NOT your best choice...

Promising music with shortcomings for beginners...
This book has lovely music in it and plenty at that. The cd does not disappoint either, sounds beautiful and seperate channels for the guitar and violin--seperate channels, not tracks. You must have the ability to adjust left or right channels on your player to hear them seperately. For beginner violinists, be aware there are pieces to start with and others to work toward, but there are no markings for bow strokes, odd fingerings, or even the choices the violinist uses on the cd. That artist would choose to slur or accent and it is not represented on the page. That having been said, the music is beautiful and a true delight to play and hear.

Challenging!
I'm not very good at reading music and although I have found many of the Irish traditional music books relatively easy especially with the Jigs; I found this book very challenging, so much so that I am not in a hurry to pick it up. On the plus side, I know another fiddle player who really rates the tunes to be found within this book as they are very pleasant to both play and listen to.

Obras sencillas y bonitas
Es el regalo perfecto para un violinista que le encante la música celta. Las canciones son muy bonitas, tanto para interpretarlas como para pararte a escucharlas
