Use meguiars ultimate compound polish instead, I was finding I was getting better results with this and the bonus is it’s cheaper and you get about 3 times as much. Overall this machine exceeded my expectations, my method for most discs with fairly bad scratches was using the sand paper for 20 seconds then used the white compound polish for 2 mins. Then finally using the blue polish for 1 min. For discs with only minor surface marks you don’t need to use he sandpaper I was getting really good results time and time again using this method on all dvd and retro games. Well happy. ### ⭐ Over-priced and inefficient *by M***D on 6 January 2013* The JFJ Easy Pro Universal is not worth £140.00. Remove the VAT and the basic price is about £116.00. It is worth about a third of that sum. £40.00 + VAT [about £50.00 would be acceptable but still not reasonable]. It is manufactured in the USA with a UK distributor. I have to assume there is a considerable mark-up both on the machine, and its consumables. The unit is simply a box with a motor in its base. The motor spins a disc, in an upper compartment. The disc has either abrasive or buffering pads attached to it. Another disc, attached on the inside of the device's lid mounts the disc for repair. The 2 discs are brought into contact when the lid is closed. There are timed cycle options for periods of 10 seconds or 20 seconds or 1 minute or 2 minute durations. When used in the recommended way the unit produces a LOT of heat. Despite this, there is not even a basic fan to circulate cooling air into, or out of, the motor compartment. Even using the unit for 10 to 20 seconds cycles with pauses between caused the thermal cut-out to trip after about 30 minutes of intermittent use. I think there would be potential risk of disc de-lamination, because of the heating issue, if the unit was repeatedly used for the 1 to 2 minute cycles. Though I also think it is likely that the thermal cut-out would stop the machine working should this be attempted. The use of a thermal cut-out that triggers persistently is the an indication of poor design, as build up of excessive heat should not be allowed to occur in a well designed machine. Excessive triggering of a thermal cut-out is likely to compromise the longevity of the motor to which it is attached. Prior to buying this machine I had tried to repair discs using a simple electronic unit [about the size of a small CD/DVD player]. This device is fitted with 2 small discs that rotate over the read area of the data disc surface from the outer edge to the inner hub. These discs had a tendency to leave curved markings on the discs, but did return the discs to usable condition. This unit cost about £20.00, and although the discs after repair were not pristine the cost of repair was substantially less than with the JFJ Easy Pro. The instructions supplied with the JFJ Easy Pro recommends practising with 10 to 15 discs before using the machine properly. This equates to expending £10.00 to £15.00 on consumables, even before electrical costs are added. I practised with a disc that I had marked quite heavily, as I wanted a true assessment of the machine's capability. It was reasonable at reducing the depth of scratches near the outer edge of the disc, but a scratch near the middle appeared not to be touched at all during either the sanding or buffering processes. This is probably caused by the eccentric alignment of the discs that this unit employs, less pressure being exerted at the outer rim of the sanding/buffering disc although the speed of rotation is greater. The 2 types of buffering solution used in the quantities recommended were ineffective in removing any but the slightest of scratches or scuffs, and there was the issue of heat generation. The use of the courser grade of sand paper [emery paper] causes a lot of scuffing. Removal requires repeated buffering using the very expensive buffering solution. All the pads are secured to the sanding/buffering disc by the use of velcro. The sanding discs have an adhesive backing to stick them to the other side of the sanding pad. Replacement sanding discs are consequently very expensive, costing about £2.50 each. The locking nut that is supposed to secure the data disc to the plate that is placed against the sanding/buffering disc has a tendency to loosen on occasions, even when used for the shortest, 10 second cycle. The velcro attachment, the adhesive attachment of the sanding/ buffering discs, the tendency for the locking nut to loosen, can all lead to vibration causing unsatisfactory finishing of the disc surface. There is a CEX store near where I live. They charge £1.00 to buffer a disc. They place the disc in a machine. The machine buffers the disc for about a minute. The buffered disc looks like new. The JFJ Easy Pro buffered discs do not, without repeated and extensive sanding and buffering. To conclude, the JFJ Easy Pro is mis-leadingly named. It is neither easy to use effectively, nor does it give a professional finish. It is not a sophisticated machine. I believe I could achieve similar results by mounting an electric drill with a buffering pad in a vice. Despite the manufacturer's claim, the unit needs a cooling fan. With that it should also have a venting tube or grill to dissipate motor heat. It should have a solution drip feed tube to maintain lubrication of the sanding/buffering pads during the cycles, with a drainage port to remove fluid collection in the disc chamber. The alignment of the sanding/buffering pads and the disc for repair should be concentric not eccentric in order to achieve repair of the whole disc surface. The cost of repairing discs is expensive because the machinery used is produced in small quantities. At full price the JFJ Easy Pro is not good value, taking into account the cost of consumables. If you have only a few discs to repair, or if they are badly scuffed or scratched, I would recommend using an outlet offering disc repair. If you have many discs to repair, there are much better machines available. They cost a LOT more, but that is because they do the job properly at a better cost per disc price compared to the JFJ Easy Pro. Post script entered 25/1/13: Just had a buffer disc [unit cost approximately £7.00 - £8.50] disintegrate. The adhesive on the sanding discs does not hold the discs firmly enough. The course pad has become detached from its base after use with approximately 5 discs. The fine sanding disc is creased and has worn through where the creases are prominent. The 2 star rating that I gave to this machine with the original review is too generous in view of the cost and poor quality of the consumables.
